چکیده

In this modeling study, we show the combined e ects of gap junctions and GABAergic synapses on the synchronous ring in networks of fast-spiking (FS) interneurons. We found analytically that two identical electrically coupled FS interneurons re synchronously at arbitrary ring frequencies, whereas an FS neuron pair coupled through GABAergic synapses show asynchronous ring. Accordingly, an FS neuron pair connected simultaneously by electrical and chemical synapses achieves both synchronous and anti-synchronous ring state in a physiologically plausible range of the conductance ratio between electrical and chemical synapses. We also investigate how two identical oscillator units composed of a regular-spiking pyramidal neuron and an FS interneuron may cooperatively re at several phase-locked states. c © 2004 Elsevier B.V. Input-Dependent Frequency Modulation of Cortical Gamma Oscillations Shapes Spatial Synchronization and Enables Phase Coding

Fine-scale temporal organization of cortical activity in the gamma range (∼25-80Hz) may play a significant role in information processing, for example by neural grouping ('binding') and phase coding. Recent experimental studies have shown that the precise frequency of gamma oscillations varies with input drive (e.g. visual contrast) and that it can differ among nearby cortical locations. This h...

Theta modulation of inter-regional gamma synchronization during auditory attention control.

Synchronization of gamma oscillations among brain regions is relevant for dynamically organizing communication among neurons to support cognitive and perceptual processing, including attention orienting. Recent research has demonstrated that inter-regional synchronization in the gamma-band is modulated by theta rhythms during cortical processing. It has been proposed that such cross-frequency d...

Theta-Modulated Gamma-Band Synchronization Among Activated Regions During a Verb Generation Task

Expressive language is complex and involves processing within a distributed network of cortical regions. Functional MRI and magnetoencephalography (MEG) have identified brain areas critical for expressive language, but how these regions communicate across the network remains poorly understood. It is thought that synchronization of oscillations between neural populations, particularly at a gamma...

Assessing cortical synchronization during transcranial direct current stimulation: A graph-theoretical analysis

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a neuromodulation technique that can alter cortical excitability and modulate behaviour in a polarity-dependent way. Despite the widespread use of this method in the neuroscience field, its effects on ongoing local or global (network level) neuronal activity are still not foreseeable. A way to shed light on the neuronal mechanisms underlying the...

Spontaneous high-frequency (10-80 Hz) oscillations during up states in the cerebral cortex in vitro.

High-frequency oscillations in cortical networks have been linked to a variety of cognitive and perceptual processes. They have also been recorded in small cortical slices in vitro, indicating that neuronal synchronization at these frequencies is generated in the local cortical circuit. However, in vitro experiments have hitherto necessitated exogenous pharmacological or electrical stimulation ...
