Association between admission hypomagnesemia mortality or mortality of critically ill patients in intensive care unit
Background: Up to now there is no study evaluating correlation between serum magnesium and morbidity or mortality in patients admitted in intensive care unit. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of hypomagnesemia in critically ill patients and to evaluate its association with organ dysfunction, hospitalization period and mortality. Methods: We conducted a retrospective trial ...
متن کاملEvaluation of simple criteria to predict successful weaning from mechanical ventilation in intensive care patients.
BACKGROUND There is increasing evidence that weaning protocols improve outcome from mechanical ventilation, but it is unclear how best to implement such protocols in large intensive care units. We evaluated a checklist of simple bedside criteria to determine whether it could be used reliably to predict successful discontinuation of mechanical ventilation. METHODS We carried out a prospective ...
متن کاملEarly-onset ventilator-associated pneumonia incidence in intensive care units: a surveillance-based study
BACKGROUND The incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) within the first 48 hours of intensive care unit (ICU) stay has been poorly investigated. The objective was to estimate early-onset VAP occurrence in ICUs within 48 hours after admission. METHODS We analyzed data from prospective surveillance between 01/01/2001 and 31/12/2009 in 11 ICUs of Lyon hospitals (France). The inclusion...
متن کاملAcute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Secondary to Influenza A(H1N1)pdm09: Clinical Characteristics and Mortality Predictors.
BACKGROUND Acute respiratory distress syndrome secondary to influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 virus is the leading cause of death among this patient population. Expanding the knowledge of its course and predictors of mortality is relevant to decision making. We aimed to describe the clinical characteristics and identify factors associated with mortality in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome...
متن کاملVentilator-Associated Pneumonia: Comparing Cadaveric Liver Transplant and Non-Transplant Surgical Patients
Ventilator-associated pneumonia is a frequent complication in intensive care surgical patients, particularly those with high severity scores on admission. We studied the incidence and clinical outcome of ventilator-associated pneumonia among patients undergoing major general surgery procedures and those undergoing cadaveric liver transplantation in our hospital. Patients with the intensive care...
