Priority-Based Quality of Service in IP Routers
نویسنده
چکیده
The main interconnecting device of today’s Internet the router, forwards IP packets without any true Quality of Service (QoS) considerations. This paper discusses a new approach for routing IP packets, which provides a basic QoS characteristic. It is shown that, by fine-tuning the parameters of a multi-port router, service discrimination can be achieved, according to the priority value set for each packet. The effect buffer sizes at the router ports is also discussed by determining the appropriate values that allow the router to serve in a satisfactory manner. Avoid LAN Switches IP Routers provide a better alternative for a Real-Time Communication System
This paper describes how routers can be used for factory communications. This statement is based on QoS management features of the IP protocol, especially schedulers, shapers, markers, filters that can be used and the ability of IP datagrams to carry priority in the ToS field for Ipv4 or the DS field for Ipv6. This last property allows priority inheritance of real-time threads across a factory ...

We propose a novel architecture for multicasting of adaptively-encoded layered MPEG4 over a QoS-aware IP network. We require a QoS-aware IP network in this case to (1) Support priority dropping of packets in time of congestion. (2) Provide congestion notification to the multicast sender. For the first requirement, we use RED’s extension for service differentiation. It recognizes the priority of...

— The need for better quality of service is growing as new quality sensitive services are becoming more and more important in data networks. The key element in providing quality-of-service or gradeof-service in packet networks is deciding when or in what order the incoming packets should depart the system. In other words the departing packets have to be somehow scheduled. Implementing this sche...
متن کاملOPNETTM Modeling of an IP Router with Scheduling Algorithms to Implement Differentiated Services
Enterprises are increasingly depending on their networks to carry mission-critical applications. To ensure the performance of such applications, quality of service (QoS) control is required and routers with QoS functions should be implemented in networks. This paper describes the OPNETTM modeling of an IP router with two scheduling algorithms: custom queuing (CQ) and priority queuing (PQ). A pr...
متن کاملDesign and Implement Differentiated Service Routers in OPNET
Differentiated Service Model (Diffserv) is currently a popular research topic as a low-cost method to bring QoS to today’s Internet, especially in the backbone. Simulation is the best way to study Diffserv before deploying it to the real Internet. In this paper, we introduce the techniques and methodologies that we used to design and implement Diffserv enabled routers by using OPNET. We have im...
