Lung Cancer and Its Clinical Implication Overexpression of Cyclin B1 in Early-Stage Non-Small Cell

چکیده
Cyclin B1 is a key molecule for G2-M-phase transition during the cell cycle and is overexpressed in various tumor types. However, the expression status of cyclin B1 in lung cancer and its clinical significance remain unknown. We used immunohistochemistry studies to examine the expression of cyclin B1 in 77 non-small cell lung cancer specimens from patients with histological stage I disease. All of the patients underwent curative surgical treatment. The median length of follow-up care is 8.2 years. High-level cyclin B1 expression (a cyclin B1 labeling index > 15%) was observed in 17 of the 77 (22%) tumors. Patients whose tumors expressed a high level of cyclin B1 had a significantly shorter survival time than patients whose tumors expressed a low level of cyclin B1 (P 5 0.02, log-rank test). Interestingly, overexpression of cyclin B1 was more frequently observed in tumors with squamous cell histology than in tumors with other histological cell types (P 5 0.01, Fisher’s exact test). A subgroup analysis revealed that cyclin B1 overexpression seems to be an adverse prognostic factor only in patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the lung (P 5 0.02, log-rank test). Our data indicate that cyclin B1 may be dysregulated in non-small cell lung cancer, particularly in the SCC subtype, and that a high level of cyclin B1 expression may be a prognostic marker for patients with early-stage SCC of the lung.

PURPOSE Cyclin B1 plays an important role in control of the G(2)-M transition of the cell cycle. We have shown recently that overexpression of cyclin B1 is associated with poor outcome in patients with early stage squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the lung. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN To determine the role of cyclin B1 in SCC of the tongue, we analyzed tumor specimens from 41 patients with stage II-IV...
متن کاملLong non-coding RNA FOXO1 inhibits lung cancer cell growth through down-regulating PI3K/AKT signaling pathway
Objective(s): Lung cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors, which seriously threatens the health and life of the people. Recently, a novel long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) termed lncFOXO1 was found and investigated in breast cancer. However, the effect of lncFOXO1 on lung cancer is still ambiguous. The current study aimed to uncover the functions of lncFOXO1 in l...
متن کاملCCDC106 promotes non-small cell lung cancer cell proliferation
Coiled-coil domain containing (CCDC) family members enhance tumor cell proliferation, and high CCDC protein levels correlate with unfavorable prognoses. Limited research demonstrated that CCDC106 may promote the degradation of p53/TP53 protein and inhibit its transactivity. The present study demonstrated that CCDC106 expression correlates with advanced TNM stage (P = 0.008), positive regional l...
متن کاملPrognostic significance of cyclin E overexpression in resected non-small cell lung cancer.
Cyclin E plays a pivotal role in the regulation of G1-S transition and relates to malignant transformation of the cells. However, the clinical significance of cyclin E expression in patients with non-small cell lung cancer remains unknown. We examined the expression of cyclin E in 242 resected non-small cell lung cancer in pathological stages I-IIIa and analyzed its relation to clinicopathologi...
