چکیده

The use of hempseed flours in the animal diets may be limited by the presence of antinutritive compounds. The content of phytic acid, condensed tannins, trypsin inhibitors, cyanogenic glycosides and saponins was evaluated in hempseed meal of three italian varieties (dioecious) and three french varieties (monoecious) of Cannabis sativa L. The analysis of variance showed significant differences among varieties for all the antinutritional compounds. The italian and french hemp groups resulted significantly different in the content of phytic acid, trypsin inhibitors and cyanogenic glycosides. The concentration of phytic acid in the hempseed flour deserves attention in both groups, while the content of cyanogenic glycosides deserves attention just in the french varieties, and condensed tannins, trypsin inhibitors and saponins are instead to acceptable levels. The french varieties presented less phytic acid than those italians (-0.55 g Kg -1 of dry matter). The content of phytic acid in hemp varieties resulted inversely correlated with trypsin inhibitors and cyanogenic glycosides. Since the presence of phytic acid in meal may lead to mineral deficiencies over a long period of administration, the phytic acid contents in hempseed flour should be reduced to increase the safety of these flours, but avoiding altering trypsin inhibitor and cyanogenic glycoside contents.

Evaluation of Protein Concentration, Amino Acid Profile and Antinutritional Compounds in Hempseed Meal from Dioecious and Monoecious Varieties

Hempseed meal from three dioecious and three monoecious varieties has been evaluated for content and quality of the protein and for the concentration of antinutritional compounds. Hemp seeds were obtained from plants grown in two experimental fields for two consecutive years (2011-2012). For all the varieties, hempseed meal resulted in a rich source of protein (34% mean content) with an amino a...

Apparent digestibility coefficients and nutritional value of Iranian cottonseed meal varieties for rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

Three different varieties of cottonseed meal (CSM) were evaluated to measure the apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) of the nutrients using chromic oxide (Cr2O3) as an indigestible marker. Five experimental diets were prepared and mixed with 1% of Cr2O3, 2% of mineral and vitamin each of which were premixed. Diet 1 was used as the control diet. Diets 2, 3, 4 and 5 were formulated using 70...

The cardiac and haemostatic effects of dietary hempseed

Despite its use in our diet for hundreds of years, hempseed has surprisingly little research published on its physiological effects. This may have been in the past because the psychotropic properties wrongly attributed to hemp would complicate any conclusions obtained through its study. Hemp has a botanical relationship to drug/medicinal varieties of Cannabis. However, hempseed no longer contai...

Lysine Availability in AminoMax Pro

Vegetable protein meals are heated during processing to remove antinutritional factors. For example, soybean meal contains protease inhibitors that reduce protein digestibility, lectins that cause lesions in the gut wall and goitrogens that influence the function of thyroxin. Canola meal can contain glucosinolates, which along with the enzyme myrosinase can produce compounds that irritate the g...
