چکیده

Abstract We calculate the tunneling density of states for a two-dimensional interacting electron gas in a quantizing magnetic field. We show that the observed pseudogap in the density of states of the lowest Landau level can be regarded to be a consequence of an infrared catastrophe, resulting from the response of the electron system to the potential produced by the abruptly added charge during a tunneling event. Our formalism can be applied at any filling factor without the use of Chern–Simons or composite fermion theory.

Tunneling into a Fractional Quantum Hall System and the Infrared Catastrophe

We calculate the tunneling density of states of a two-dimensional interacting electron gas in a quantizing magnetic field. We show that the observed pseudogap in the density of states can be understood as the result of an infrared catastrophe in a noninteracting electron model. This catastrophe stems from the response of an electronic system to the potential produced by the abruptly added charg...

Infrared catastrophe and tunneling into strongly correlated electron systems: Perturbative x-ray edge limit

The tunneling density of states exhibits anomalies cusps, algebraic suppressions, and pseudogaps at the Fermi energy in a wide variety of low-dimensional and strongly correlated electron systems. We argue that in many cases these spectral anomalies are caused by an infrared catastrophe in the screening response to the sudden introduction of a new electron into the system during a tunneling even...

The Effect of Structural Parameters on the Electronic States and Oscillator Strength of a Resonant Tunneling Quantum Well Infrared Photodetector

In this paper a resonant tunnelling quantum well infrared photodetector (RT-QWIP) is discussed. Each period of this photodetector structure comprises of a resonant tunnelling structure (AlAs/AlGaAs/AlAs) nearby a quantum well (AlGaAs/GaAs). In this photodetector, photocurrent is produced when an electron makes a transition from the ground state of the well to an excited state which is coupled t...

بررسی اثر صحیح کوانتومی هال در سیستمهای دارای ناخالصی به روش تبدیل پیمانه‌ای در حضور نقطه‌های کوانتومی

In this paper we study the integer quantum Hall effect (IQHE) on the systems with different types of impurities in delta and gaussian forms. The Landau energy levels in the presence of impurity split in two different levels, the extended and localized levels, emerging then the Hall step. Finally, we add a specified form of a quantum dot potential to a system with impurity, and observed that incr...

Tunneling into Ferromagnetic Quantum Hall States: Observation of a Spin Bottleneck

We explore the characteristics of equilibrium tunneling of electrons from a 3D electrode into a high mobility 2D electron system. For most noninteger filling factors, we find that tunneling can be characterized by a single, well-defined tunneling rate. However, for spin-polarized quantum Hall states (n 1, 3, and 1 3) tunneling occurs at two distinct rates that differ by up to 2 orders of magnit...
