چکیده
We report the discovery of the optical counterpart of the 12.3 s transient X–ray pulsar GS 0834–43. We re–analysed archival ROSAT PSPC observations of GS 0834–43 obtaining two new refined positions, ∼14 and ∼18 away from the previously published one, and a new spin period measurement. Based on these results we carried out optical and infra–red (IR) follow–up observations. Within the new error circles we found a relatively faint (V=20.1) early type reddened star (V–R=2.24). The optical spectrum shows a strong Hα emission line. The IR observations of the field confirm the presence of an IR excess for the Hα–emitting star (K=11.4, J–K=1.94) which is likely surrounded by a conspicuous circumstellar envelope. Spectroscopic and photometric data indicate a B0–2 V–IIIe spectral–type star located at a distance of 3–5kpc and confirm the Be–star/X–ray binary nature of GS 0834–43.

The identification of the optical/IR counterpart of the 29.5-s transient X-ray pulsar
We report on the identification of the optical/IR counterpart of the 29.5-s transient X–ray pulsar GS 1843+009. We re–analysed an archival ROSAT HRI observation of GS 1843+009 obtaining a new refined position. The optical and IR follow–up observations carried out for the new error circle allowed us to find a relatively faint (V = 20.9) and variable early type reddened star (V − R = 2.1). The op...
متن کاملA Sequence of Outbursts from the Transient X-ray Pulsar
GS 0834[430, a 12.3 s accretion-powered pulsar, has been observed in seven outbursts with the BATSE large-area detectors on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. The Ðrst Ðve outbursts observed by BATSE occurred at intervals of about 107 days, while the Ðnal two outbursts were separated by about 140 days. The photon energy spectrum, measured by Earth occultation in the 20È100 keV band, can be Ðtte...
متن کاملDiscovery of the X - Ray Counterpart to the Rotating Radio Transient
We present the discovery of the first X-ray counterpart to a Rotating RAdio Transient (RRAT) source. RRAT J1819–1458 is a relatively highly magnetized (B ∼ 5 × 1013 G) member of a new class of unusual pulsar-like objects discovered by their bursting activity at radio wavelengths. The position of RRAT J1819– 1458 was serendipitously observed by the Chandra ACIS-I camera in 2005 May. At that posi...
متن کاملThe Ir Counterpart to the Anomalous X–ray Pulsar 1rxs J170849−400910
We report the discovery of the likely IR counterpart to the Anomalous X–ray Pulsar (AXP) 1RXS J170849−400910, based on the combination of Chandra HRC–I X–ray position, and deep optical/IR observations carried out from ESO telescopes and the Canada France Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) during 1999–2002. Within the narrow uncertainty region we found two relatively faint (K=20.0 and K=17.53) IR objects. ...

We report on the discovery and analysis of the transient X-ray pulsar CXO/XMMU J073709.13+653544 detected in the 2004 August–October Chandra and XMM-Newton observations of the nearby spiral galaxy NGC2403. The X-ray source exhibits X-ray pulsations with a period P∼18 s and a nearly sinusoidal pulse shape and pulsed fraction 46-70% during the first three observations. A detailed timing analysis ...
