Secondary user relations in emerging mobile computing environments

Received: 11 November 2005 Revised: 1 February 2006 Accepted: 20 February 2006 Abstract Mobile technologies are enabling access to information in diverse environments, and are exposing a wider group of individuals to said technology. Therefore, this paper proposes that a wider view of user relations than is usually considered in information systems research is required. Specifically, we examine the potential effects of emerging mobile technologies on end-user relations with a focus on the ‘secondary user’, those who are not intended to interact directly with the technology but are intended consumers of the technology’s output. For illustration, we draw on a study of a U.K. regional Fire and Rescue Service and deconstruct mobile technology use at Fire Service incidents. Our findings provide insights, which suggest that, because of the nature of mobile technologies and their context of use, secondary user relations in such emerging mobile environments are important and need further exploration. A New Model Representation for Road Mapping in Emerging Sciences: A Case Study on Roadmap of Quantum Computing
One of the solutions for organizations to succeed in highly competitive markets is to move toward emerging sciences. These areas provide many opportunities, but, if organizations do not meet requirements of emerging sciences, they may fail and eventually, may enter a crisis. In this matter, one of the important requirements is to develop suitable roadmaps in variety fields such as strategic, ca...
متن کاملReduction of Energy Consumption in Mobile Cloud Computing by Classification of Demands and Executing in Different Data Centers
In recent years, mobile networks have faced with the increase of traffic demand. By emerging mobile applications and cloud computing, Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) has been introduced. In this research, we focus on the 4th and 5th generation of mobile networks. Data Centers (DCs) are connected to each other by high-speed links in order to minimize delay and energy consumption. By considering a ...
متن کاملAdaptive Service in Mobile Computing Environments
Emerging communication-intensive applications require signiicant levels of networking resources for eecient operation. In the context of mobile computing environments, limited and dynamically varying available resources, stringent application requirements, and user mobility make it diicult to provide sustained quality of service to applications. This paper addresses the above issues, and propos...
متن کاملA context-sensitive dynamic role-based access control model for pervasive computing environments
Resources and services are accessible in pervasive computing environments from anywhere and at any time. Also, due to ever-changing nature of such environments, the identity of users is unknown. However, users must be able to access the required resources based on their contexts. These and other similar complexities necessitate dynamic and context-aware access control models for such environmen...

aBsTracT Human Computer Interaction (HCI) challenges in highly dynamic computing environments can be solved by tailoring the access and use of services to user preferences. In this era of emerging standards for open and collaborative computing environments, the major challenge that is being addressed in this chapter is how personalisation information can be managed in order to support cross-ser...
