چکیده
34 35 Cross-correlation of neural discharges was used to investigate the connections between 36 expiratory bulbospinal neurons (EBSNs) in the caudal medulla and expiratory motoneurons 37 innervating thoracic and abdominal muscles in anesthetized cats. Peaks were seen in the cross38 correlation histograms for around half of the EBSN-nerve pairs for the following: at T8, the nerve 39 branches innervating internal intercostal muscle and external abdominal oblique muscle and a more 40 distal branch of the internal intercostal nerve; at L1, a nerve branch innervating internal abdominal 41 oblique muscle and a more distal branch of the ventral ramus. Fewer peaks were seen for the L1 42 nerve innervating external abdominal oblique, but a paucity of presumed alpha motoneuron 43 discharges could explain the rarity of the peaks in this instance. Taking into account individual EBSN 44 conduction times to T8 and to L1, as well as peripheral conduction times, nearly all of the peaks were 45 interpreted as representing monosynaptic connections. Individual EBSNs showed connections at both 46 T8 and L1, but without any discernible pattern. The overall strength of the monosynaptic connection 47 from EBSNs at L1 was found to be very similar to that at T8, which was previously argued to be 48 substantial and responsible for the temporal patterns of expiratory motoneuron discharges. However, 49 we argue that other inputs are required to create the stereotyped spatial patterns of discharges in the 50 thoracic and abdominal musculature. 51 52 53

Study of the Effects of Horsetail Stem Extract Administration on the Numerical Density of Alpha Motoneurons in the Ventral Horn of Lumbar Spinal Cord of Compressed Sciatic Nerve of Rat
Purpose: The goal of this research was to study of the protective effects horse tail (HT) plant extract on the central degeneration of alpha motoneurons (AM) of spinal cord.Materials and Methods: The lesioned sciatic rats were divided into sham, control and 3 experimental groups and treated by 15 mg/kg, ip HT extract. The animals were care for one month and then were sacrificed and perfused car...
متن کاملPost-Operative Time Effects after Sciatic Nerve Crush on the Number of Alpha Motoneurons, Using a Sterological Counting Method (Disector)
There are extensive evidences that show axonal processes of the nervous system (peripheral and/or central) may be degenerated after nerve injuries. Wallerian degeneration and chromatolysis are the most conspicuous phenomena that occur in response to injuries. In this research, the effects of post-operative time following sciatic nerve crush on the number of spinal motoneurons were investigated....
متن کاملExtent of branching and conduction velocities of ascending and descending primary afferents in isolated spinal cord of the rat and hamster
Wall and Shortland (1991) have shown that afferent fibers entering the cord in thoracic and lumbar roots of adult rats have branches that may penetrate up to 11 segments caudally from the root entry zone. We have investigated the extent of branching and conduction velocities of ascending and descending branches of lumbar and thoracic primary afferents in isolated spinal cords of adult hamsters ...
متن کاملMorphological changes of lumbar spinal neurons after sciatic nerve transection in neonate rats
Axotomy of the sciatic nerve have been documented to cause neuronal loss, especially in newborn rats. Few works have focused on time course of neuronal loss and the type of cell death, which occurs after axotomy. Forty rat pups were anesthetized by hypothermia and the right sciatic nerve transected at five days of their age and the left side was used as control. The operated animals were sacrif...

متن کاملNeuronal basis of crossed actions from the reticular formation on feline hindlimb motoneurons.
Pathways through which reticulospinal neurons can influence contralateral limb movements were investigated by recording from motoneurons innervating hindlimb muscles. Reticulospinal tract fibers were stimulated within the brainstem or in the lateral funiculus of the thoracic spinal cord contralateral to the motoneurons. Effects evoked by ipsilaterally descending reticulospinal tract fibers were...
