Lipoproteins, cholesterol and phospholipids in sera of rabbits following ligation of the common bile duct or injection of carbon tetrachloride.

چکیده
In pediatric practice it was not infrequent to meet with a difficulty in etiological diagnosis for neonatal jaundice. For example, both neonatal hepatitis and atresia of the bile duct would present similar clinical and laboratory findings of "obstructive jaundice", and while an early surgical treatment is recommended for the cases with atresia of the bile duct, the therapy for those of neonatal hepatitis will be quite different. In the present investigation it was tried to investigate whether or not any difference of lipoprotein patterns, cholesterol and phospholipids would be found between rabbits with ligation of the common bile duct, which may be considered as an extreme case of biliary obstruction on one side and those with severe damage on hepatic parenchyma produced by carbon tetrachloride injection on the other.

Serum and lymph lipids in rabbits with carbon tetrachloride-induced cirrhosis of the liver.
Lymph flow and the composition of lymph lipids from the hepatic and thoracic ducts of rabbits with cirrhosis of the liver (induced by 46-51 intramuscular injections of a mixture of carbon tetrachloride and olive oil at 4-day intervals) have been compared with those of control animals injected with olive oil only. In cirrhotic animals, the concentration of lymph lipids was not greatly altered, b...
متن کاملThe Effect of Ligation of the Common Bile Duct on Cholesterol Synthesis in the Rat
The effect on cholesterol synthesis of ligation of the common bile duct was studied in the rat. The bile ducts of rats were ligated; 24 to 48 hours later, estimates of the rate of cholesterol synthesis were made, either by injection of labelled water or acetate into the intact animal, or by incubation of slices or homogenates of the liver in the presence of 1-C(14)-acetate. These various criter...
متن کاملPrevalence of rabbit hepatic coccidiosis in north west of Iran
Hepatic coccidiosis is considered as a major problem in rabbits which mortality rate may go high as a result of unhygienic maintenance with overcrowding. This study was aimed to determine abundance and pathologic changes of hepatic coccidiosis in rabbits of northwestern Iran. A total of 320 rabbits (110 New Zealand, 110 Angora, and 100 Native) in different sex and age groups were randomly selec...
متن کاملEstablishment of a novel rat model of severe acute cholangitis
Objective(s):This study aimed to establish a novel non-binding, reversible rat model of acute cholangitis of the severe type (ACST). Materials and Methods:Twenty-six rats were randomly divided into the sham-operated group (n=13) and the ACST group (n=13). All rats were intubated with a modified catheter through the external jugular vein. The ACST model was established by ligation of the distal ...
متن کاملEffect of bile duct ligation on bile acid metabolism in rats.
The effect of bile duct ligation on the quantitative and qualitative changes of bile acids in serum, liver, urine, and feces, and the concentration of cholesterol and phospholipids in serum and liver were examined in male rats. The concentration of bile acids in serum increased over 100-fold on day 5 but was lower than the 5-day level on days 10 and 15. The concentration in the liver also incre...
