Two Proteins Purified from Lobster Nerve Extract
نویسندگان
چکیده
1. A protein component, fraction B, of lobster nerve extracts has been isolated and purified by differential ultracentrifugation and precipitation with zinc acetate. 2. Physicochemical data obtained from this protein and from fraction C are summarized. 3. Fraction B is present in lobster nerve extracts in higher concentration (relative to fraction A) than in blood. 4. A second component, fraction C, of sedimentation constant S(20) (o) = 13.2 has been isolated from lobster nerve extracts.

Nerve growth factor (NGF) is a neurotrophic factor that is functional in the survival, maintenance and differentiation of nervous system cells. This protein has three subunits, of which the beta subunit has the main activity. Its structure consists of a cysteine knot motif made up of beta strands linked by disulfide bonds. It can be used as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of many diseases....
متن کاملSelective allergy to lobster in a case of primary sensitization to house dust mites.
Allergy to only 1 kind of seafood is uncommon. We report a case of selective allergy to lobster. We studied a 30-year-old man who suffered generalized urticaria, facial erythema, and pharyngeal pruritus after eating lobster. He had a more than 10-year history of mild persistent asthma and sensitization to house dust mites. The study was performed by skin prick test, and prick-prick test, oral f...

The heart of the crustaceans has its own pacemaker neurons inside the heart, which are composed of 9 neurons. The neurons receive innervations of only three kinds of axons originated from the central nervous system; one pair of inhibitory and two pairs of acceleratory axons. Thus, in terms of the neural cardiac control from higher center, this system may have much more simplistic operation comp...

متن کاملStudies of Nerve Proteins. Isolation and Physicochemical Characterization of a Protein from Lobster Nerve
1. A procedure is described by which several protein constituents may be obtained from extracts of lobster claw nerves. One of these fractions, designated fraction A, representing 10 per cent of the total non-dialyzable material of the extracts, has been obtained in relatively (85 per cent) pure form. 2. This component has been characterized with respect to its physicochemical properties, parti...
