Computational Lexicography and Lexicology A Large-Scale Extension of VerbNet with Novel Verb Classes
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lexical classifications have proved useful in supporting various linguistic and natural language processing (NLP) tasks. The largest verb classification in English is Levin's (1993) work. VerbNet (Kipper-Schuler 2006) the largest computational verb lexicon currently available for English provides detailed syntactic-semantic descriptions of Levin classes. While the classes included are extensive enough for some NLP use, they are not comprehensive. Korhonen and Briscoe (2004) have proposed a significant extension of Levin's classification which incorporates 57 novel classes for verbs not covered (comprehensively) by Levin. Korhonen and Ryant (2005) have recently supplemented this with another extension including 53 additional classes. This paper describes the integration of these two extensions into VerbNet. The result is an extensive Levin style classification for English verbs which now provides over 90% token coverage of the PropBank data, making possible the use of supervised machine learning.

متن کاملA Supervised Algorithm for Verb Disambiguation into VerbNet Classes
VerbNet (VN) is a major large-scale English verb lexicon. Mapping verb instances to their VN classes has been proven useful for several NLP tasks. However, verbs are polysemous with respect to their VN classes. We introduce a novel supervised learning model for mapping verb instances to VN classes, using rich syntactic features and class membership constraints. We evaluate the algorithm in both...
متن کاملVerbNet overview, extensions, mappings and applications
The goal of this tutorial is to introduce and discuss VerbNet, a broad coverage verb lexicon freely available on-line. VerbNet contains explicit syntactic and semantic information for classes of verbs and has mappings to several other widely-used lexical resources, including WordNet, PropBank, and FrameNet. Since its first release in 2005 VerbNet is being used by a large number of researchers a...
متن کاملExtracting HPSG Lexicon from Arabic VerbNet
This paper presents the construction of a HPSG lexicon of Arabic verbal entities, automatically inferred from the Arabic VerbNet, a large coverage verb lexicon where verbs are classified using syntactic alternations. We discuss the main verb specification along with the relation of the syntactic and semantic levels of representation within the HPSG framework. Extensive analysis of the Arabic Ve...
