چکیده

Bluetongue (BT) is an infectious, noncontagious, arthropod-borne viral disease, principally of sheep but many domestic and wild animals are also affected by this disease (Akita et al., 1994). The severity of BT in sheep varies depending on the virus, the breed of sheep and environmental stress. Infection in cattle and goats is usually sub-clinical. Etiological agent of the disease belongs to the genus Orbivirus in the family Reoviridae. Twenty six serotypes of BTV have so far been recognized worldwide and many more may be prevalent in regions where no survey has been made so far (Parsad et al., 2000). BTV infection occurs in most of the tropical, semitropical and temperate region of the world in parallel with the distribution of its vectors. The regions which are considered endemic areas of bluetongue virus are inhabited by 2/3 of sheep and cattle population around the globe between 40 0

Sero-prevalence of bluetongue disease in sheep in west and northwest provinces of Iran

The objective of this study was to describe the seroprevalence rates of bluetongue virus (BTV) in sheep in west and northwest provinces of Iran. Bluetongue virus, an economically important orbivirus of the Reoviridae family, causes a hemorrhagic disease mainly in sheep and occasionally in cattle and some species of deer. Bluetongue virus is transmitted between its mammalian hosts by ce...

Comparison of competitive and indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays for detection of bluetongue virus antibodies in serum and whole blood.

An indirect (I) enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and a competitive (C) ELISA, using a group-specific monoclonal antibody against bluetongue virus (BTV), are described for the detection of antibodies to BTV in cattle and sheep sera. The performance of these assays in detecting anti-BTV antibody in sequential serum samples and eluates from whole blood (WB) dried on filter paper from thre...

Seroprevalence of bluetongue virus antibodies in sheep and goats in Kerala State, India.

The results presented here record the first confirmation of bluetongue virus (BTV) antibody in sheep and goats in Kerala State. A total of 1,010 sera collected from the 14 districts within the state were screened for the presence of group-specific BTV antibodies by dot enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (dot ELISA). Positive samples were obtained from 12 of the 14 districts. The overall BTV anti...

Serologic evidence of bluetongue infection in onehumped camels (Camelus dromedarius) in Kerman province, Iran

Herein, we presented the first report on bluetongue (BT) disease in 10 pregnant camels in a herd fromKerman province, Iran. All sera samples were tested serologically (AGID, C-ELISA). We also used the Razi-BK cell line, performed primary culture of ovine kidney and inoculated intravenously the embryonatedchicken eggs (ECE) to culture and isolate the BT virus. Efforts to culture and isolation of...
