0 Dirac Strings and Monopoles in the Continuum Limit of SU ( 2 ) Lattice Gauge Theory
Magnetic monopoles are known to emerge as leading non-perturbative fluctuations in the lattice version of non-Abelian gauge theories in some gauges. In terms of the Dirac quantization condition, these monopoles have magnetic charge |QM | = 2. Also, magnetic monopoles with |QM | = 1 can be introduced on the lattice via the ’t Hooft loop operator. We consider the |QM | = 1, 2 monopoles in the con...
متن کامل1 Ja n 20 01 The Melvin Universe in Born - Infeld Theory and other Theories of Non - Linear Electrodynamics
We derive a Melvin Universe type solution describing a magnetic field permeating the whole Universe in gravity minimally coupled to any non-linear electromagnetic theory, including Born-Infeld Theory. For a large set of non-linear electrodynamics theories, our solution is complete and non-singular, as long as the magnetic field is sub-critical. We examine some properties of the solution; in par...
متن کاملDisguised Face Recognition by Using Local Phase Quantization and Singular Value Decomposition
Disguised face recognition is a major challenge in the field of face recognition which has been taken less attention. Therefore, in this paper a disguised face recognition algorithm based on Local Phase Quantization (LPQ) method and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) is presented which deals with two main challenges. The first challenge is when an individual intentionally alters the appearance ...
متن کاملThe Classical and Quantum Mechanics of Systems with Constraints
In this paper, we discuss the classical and quantum mechanics of finite dimensional mechanical systems subject to constraints. We review Dirac’s classical formalism of dealing with such problems and motivate the definition of objects such as singular and non-singular action principles, firstand second-class constraints, and the Dirac bracket. We show how systems with first-class constraints can...
متن کاملThe Maxwell–Dirac Equations, Some Non-Perturbative Results
In this talk I will review some recent work on the Maxwell–Dirac equations. This system of equations can be thought of as the classical equations for electronic matter, the quantisation of which yields that most successful of physical theories, QED. The talk will focus on qualitative, non-perturbative properties of this highly non-linear system of equations. We will be particularly interested i...
