Development of SSR markers for the tropical alpine tree species Leptospermum recurvum (Myrtaceae) on Mount Kinabalu in Borneo1

چکیده
UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY Nuclear microsatellite (simple sequence repeat [SSR]) markers were developed for the woody species Leptospermum recurvum found on Mount Kinabalu, Borneo, to facilitate investigation of the genetic structure and patterns of gene flow in relation to leaf phenotypic polymorphisms. • METHODS AND RESULTS Eleven primer pairs were developed using the compound SSR marker technique. Ten of the 11 loci were polymorphic and their expected heterozygosity ranged from 0.04 to 0.83. Neither linkage disequilibrium nor departure from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium were detected. All primer pairs also amplified the SSR loci of L. polygalifolium. • CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest the utility of these primers for investigating genetic structure and gene flow in L. recurvum and indicate their applicability to another species of Leptospermum.

Canopy structure of tropical and sub-tropical rain forests in relation to conifer dominance analysed with a portable LIDAR system
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Globally, conifer dominance is restricted to nutient-poor habitats in colder, drier or waterlogged environments, probably due to competition with angiosperms. Analysis of canopy structure is important for understanding the mechanism of plant coexistence in relation to competition for light. Most conifers are shade intolerant, and often have narrow, deep, conical crowns. In t...
متن کاملA new species of Acanthococcus (Hemiptera, Coccoidea, Eriococcidae) on Leptospermum scoparium (Myrtaceae) from Italy and France
The adult female, 1-instar nymph, 2-instar male and 2-instar female nymphs of a new species of felt scale, Acanthococcus mariannae Pellizzari, are described and illustrated. The new species was collected off Leptospermum scoparium (Myrtaceae) in Italy and France. An identification key of Eriococcid species known to occur on Leptospermum spp is also provided.
متن کاملRelationship between Psidium species (Myrtaceae) by resistance gene analog markers: focus on nematode resistance.
Guava (Psidium guajava L.) crop is severely affected by the nematode Meloidogyne enterolobii. Native Psidium species have been reported as sources of resistance against this nematode. Knowledge on the molecular relationship between Psidium species based on plant resistance gene analogs (RGA) can be useful in the genetic breeding of guava for resistance to M. enterolobii. In this study, RGA mark...
متن کاملGenetic Variation of Lime (Citrus sp.) Accessions Using Flow Cytometry Technique, Morphological Characteristics and Molecular Markers
Because of sexual propagation of Mexican lime in southern regions of Iran, there are many lime accessions (lime biotypes) in Mexican lime gardens in which appear some variation in fruit and tree shape. However, most of these accessions are susceptible to witches broom disease of lime (WBDL). Persian lime (C. latifolia Tanaka) is a triploid WBDL-tolerant species. Considerable number of un-descri...
متن کاملSeasonal variation in the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of volatile oils of three species of Leptospermum (Myrtaceae) grown in Brazil.
This study investigates the seasonal variation of three species of Leptospermum (Myrtaceae) grown in Brazil. The chemical composition of the volatile oils of L. flavescens and L. petersonii did not show any significant seasonal variation in the major components, while for Leptospermum madidum subsp. sativum the levels of major constituents of the volatile oils varied with the harvest season. Ma...
