چکیده

Aim: To study the genome profile of Chital deer (A.axis) by microsatellite markers using faecal DNA & to assess its usefulness as non invasive method of genotyping. Materials and Methods: DNA was isolated from 44 animals from faeces and blood, out of which 26 (3 from blood and 23 from faeces) were subjected for genotyping. The PCR products of all the ten microsatellite loci were subjected to 6 % UreaPAGE to differentiate allelic size. Result: Total 57 alleles and 49 genotypes were found with their frequencies ranging from 0.022 to 0.457 and 0.043 to 0.696 respectively. The observed number of alleles ranged from 4 -8, (Av. = 5.7 per locus). The PIC and Shannon's information index values for all loci ranged between 0.6645 to 0.8270 (Av. = 0.7442 per locus) and 1.1870 to 1.8852 (Av. = 1.5122 per locus) respectively. Conclusion: Faecal DNA can be effectively used in genotyping wild animals, however the method and time of collection & storage as well as the type of faecal material largely influences the quality & quantity of DNA.

Bovicola tibialis (Phthiraptera:Trichodectidae): occurrence of an exotic chewing louse on cervids in North America.

Through a recent (2003-2007) survey of ectoparasites on hoofed mammals in western North America, a literature review, and examination of archived museum specimens, we found that the exotic deer-chewing louse, Bovicola tibialis (Piaget), is a long-term, widespread resident in the region. The earliest known collection was from Salt Spring Island, Canada, in 1941. We found these lice on the typica...

Microsatellite Analysis DNA for Controlled Breeding of Cervidae and Genetic Breeding of White Colored Cervus elaphus in Czech Republic

A territorial isolation is a danger to the game population, causing deterioration called the inbreeding depression. The typical signs are anomalous body proportions, such as short lower jaw, shortened lifetime, weak physique and lower birth rate. This is caused by low number of game in the community. White colored deer is in the location of the CzechRepublicbred in separation since 18th century...

Effect of Season on Helminth Loads of Wild Herbivores and Cattle in the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Southern India

1766 ABSTRACT The effects of season on helminth loads was studied between May and August 1999, using the estimation of helminth eggs per gram of faeces as an index, at the Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, southern India. The species of hosts sampled included chital (Axis axis), gaur (Bos gaurus), elephant (Elephas maximus) and domestic cattle. In general all species showed an upward trend (i.e., t...

Transferability of microsatellite loci from exotic Cervidae to Brazilian brocket deer (Mazama spp, Mammalia: Cervidae).

Transferability of microsatellite loci between closely related species has been reported in several species. This helps reduce costs involved with the development of primers for newly investigated species. Fifteen microsatellite primers developed for Rangifer tarandus, Cervus elaphus, C. axis, and Moschus berezovskii were tested on five species of Brazilian brocket deer of the genus Mazama (M. ...
