Effects of dietary benzoic acid on urinary pH and nutrient digestibility in lactating sows

چکیده
Two experiments were conducted to examine the effect of benzoic acid in the diet of lactating sows on urinary pH and nutrient digestibility. In the first experiment, three levels of benzoic acid in the diet were tested (0.5, 1.0, and 2.0%), while in the second experiment only one dietary level of benzoic acid (0.5%) was used. In the second experiment, the urinary excretion of benzoic acid and hippuric acid was additionally measured. The digestibility was estimated in experiment 1 with HCl-insoluble ash as a marker and in experiment 2 in a total balance period with collection of urine and faeces over 5 days. Supplementation of benzoic acid reduced the urinary pH in a dose dependent manner (pb0.01). The relationship between benzoic acid intake and urinary pH response was linear. Dietary benzoic acid at a level of 2% increased the digestibility of organic matter, protein, fat and fiber in the diet. In sows fed the diet supplemented with 0.5% of benzoic acid, 64% of benzoic acid ingested was excreted via urine as hippuric acid, the remainder as unmetabolized benzoic acid. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. High Levels of Monensin to Mid Lactating Dairy Cows: Nutrient Digestibility, Ruminal Fermentation and Microbial Protein Synthesis
The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutrient digestibility, ruminal fermentation and microbial protein synthesis of mid-lactating cows fed high dietary levels of monensin. Twelve Holstein cows were distributed into four 3 × 3 latin squares and assigned to the following treatments: control (CON), monensin 24 (M24, addition of 24 mg monensin/kg diet DM) and monensin 48 (M48, addition of 48 ...
متن کاملEfficacy of Optiphos phytase on mineral digestibility in diets for breeding sows: effect during pregnancy and lactation
Phosphorus in most diets for breeding sows is digested for 20 to 40%, thus leading to a relatively high amount of P in the manure. To enhance the P digestibility in diets for both lactating and gestating sows, two separate experiments were carried out to study the efficacy of Optiphos TM phytase derived from E. coli and produced by the yeast Pichia pastoris. Thirty crossbred gestating sows and ...

The influence of dietary supplementation with blended essential oil on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, blood profiles and fecal characteristics was evaluated in 125 crossed ((Duroc×Yorkshire)×Landrace) pigs (6.21±0.20 kg initial body weight and 21 d average age). The pigs were allotted to the following treatments: i) NC (antibiotic free diet), ii) PC (NC diet+44 ppm tylosin), iii) T...

Rumen Yeast® (RY; Saccharomyces cerevisiae), a live yeast strain, improves milk yield and composition and nutrients digestibility through balancing rumen ecosystem and increasing ruminal cellulolytic bacteria numbers in cattle. To examine the effects of dietary supplementation of RY in Nili-Ravi buffaloes, 16 buffaloes with 8 L average daily milk production were randomly divided into two groups...

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of palm kernel expellers on productive performance, nutrient digestibility, and changes in white blood cells (WBC) of lactating sows. A total of 14 sows (200±12 kg of average body weight [BW]; 2.5 of average parity) were used and moved from gestation room to farrowing room on d 109 of gestation. Sows were randomly assigned to 2 dietary tr...
