GIS based Optimal Collection Routing Model for Municipal Solid Waste: Case study in Singanallur, India
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper an attempt has been made to develop an appropriate storage and collection plan based on optimal routing model using Geologic Information System in one of the wards of the Singanallur, Coimbatore city, India. The ward map is digitized and georeferenced. The collection bins are attributed and collection routes of the MSW are optimized for degradable and recyclable wastes separately. The optimized route covered by the collection vehicle during the collection of recyclable wastes is 82.5% lesser than the degradable wastes. This is due to lesser generation of recyclable wastes than the degradable wastes. Also, there is a collection distance saving of 46% and benefit in the vehicle running and maintenance expenditure is 86.7% due to the optimization of collection routes. This study helps the waste management organizers to streamline the collection system in

A better Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) management plans are required for developing urban cities in India. Further to facilitate MSW management, the enhanced options are to be provided for initial functions of MSW such as collection and transportation. The environmental and cost effectiveness of the functions would be achieved and analysed with adopting scientific technology like Geographical Inf...

Uncontrolled growth of the urban population in developing countries in recent years has made solid waste management an important issue. Very often, a substantial amount of total expenditures is spent on the collection of solid waste by city authorities. Optimization of the routing system for collection and transport of solid waste thus constitutes an important component of an effective solid wa...

Municipal solid waste collection is expensive and, in some cities, 46–85% of their whole waste management expenses are used for waste collection and transportation. Rapid urbanization and every day human actions generate a large amount of waste from residential, commercial, or industrial extents all over the world. Waste collection optimization can decrease the waste collection budget and envir...

Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is an increasing concern at any municipality in the world, and is one of the primary factors that contribute greatly to the rising of climate change and global warming. MSW collection and disposal especially in the context of developing countries are indeed the urgent requirements for the sustainable development of environment and landscape, which rule over the quali...
متن کاملGenetic Algorithms for Municipal Solid Waste Collection and Routing Optimization
In the present paper, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used for the identification of optimal routes in the case of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) collection. The identification of a route for MSW collection trucks is critical since it has been estimated that, of the total amount of money spent for the collection, transportation, and disposal of solid waste, approximately 60-80% is spent on the colle...
