Discussion of International Business Cycle Co-movements through Time

چکیده
The paper by Dan Andrews and Marion Kohler provides an interesting and very useful contribution to the empirical literature that seeks to explain the factors infl uencing bilateral output correlations. While there are a number of papers that have developed empirical models of the cross-section distribution of bilateral (de-trended) output correlations (Baxter and Kouparitsas 2005, Imbs 2004 and Otto, Voss and Willard 2001), the key innovation of Dan and Marion’s paper is to focus on the time-series dimension of bilateral output correlations. Specifi cally, the authors examine whether factors such as trade intensity and similarity of industry structure, which appear to explain the cross-section behaviour of output correlations, also explain trends in bilateral sample correlations over time.

Task allocation algorithms are defined in order to meet the various policies of organizations. The most important of these...
متن کاملIntermediate Macroeconomics: The Real Business Cycle Model
Having developed an operational model of the economy, we want to ask ourselves the following two questions. First, can the model explain actual business cycle data? Second, to the extent to which it can fit the data, what are the implications for economic policy? To proceed we first have make clear what is meant by “business cycle” data. This requires briefly looking at some US macroeconomic da...

There are many studies on the business cycle indicators in the past decades, but mostly focusing on the asymmetric and non-linear features of business cycles incorporated into the conditional mean equation rather than the conditional variance formulation. Recently, the hypothesis of volatility asymmetry in business cycle indicators has been re-examined by, for instance, Ho and Tsui (2003 and 20...
