Quasistatic Frictional Contact and Wear of a Beam

چکیده
A problem of frictional contact between an elastic beam and a moving foundation and the resulting wear of the beam is considered. The process is assumed to be quasistatic, the contact is modeled with normal compliance, and the wear is described by the Archard law. Existence and uniqueness of the weak solution for the problem is proved using the theory of strongly monotone operators and the Cauchy-Lipschitz theorem. It is also shown that growth of the the wear function is at most linear. Finally, a numerical approach to the problem is considered using a time semi-discrete scheme. The existence of the unique solution for the discretized scheme is established and error estimates on the approximate solutions are derived. R esum e.

Numerical Analysis of a Quasistatic Problem of Sliding Frictional Contact with Wear
We consider numerical approximations of a quasistatic problem modeling the sliding frictional contact with wear between a viscoelastic body and a rigid moving foundation. The contact is modeled with the Coulomb's law of dry friction and the wear is described by a version of Archard's law. The variational formulation of the problem consists of a nonlinear evolutionary equation coupled with a tim...

The nonlinear system becomes an area with numerous investigations over the past decades. The conventional modal analysis could not be applied on nonlinear continuous system which makes it impossible to construct the reduced order models and obtain system response based on limited number of measurement points. Nonlinear normal modes provide a useful tool for extending modal analysis to nonlinea...

We consider a class of evolutionary variational inequalities arising in quasistatic frictional contact problems for linear elastic materials. We indicate sufficient conditions in order to have the existence, the uniqueness and the Lipschitz continuous dependence of the solution with respect to the data, respectively. The existence of the solution is obtained using a time-discretization method, ...

A major source of energy dissipation and surface wear is the kinetic friction at the interfaces of sliding bodies. Traditionally, on a macroscopic scale, this undesirable effect is reduced with lubricating the surfaces by introducing oil into their interface. An interesting phenomenon, called superlubricity, has been reported on a nanometer scale where dry (without lubricant oil) fruition and w...
