Thermodynamic consistency of the multi-scale Gibbs–Helmholtz constrained equation of state

چکیده
The multi-scale Gibbs–Helmholtz constrained (GHC) equation is a new predictive cubic equation of state that constrains the energy parameter in the SRK equation to satisfy the Gibbs–Helmholtz equation. It makes use of internal energies of departure calculated from NTP Monte Carlo simulations at the molecular length scale and a novel up-scaling expression to determine the energy parameter at the bulk phase length scale. In this article it is shown that mathematical representation of isothermal molecular internal energies of departure as a staircase function in pressure leads directly to thermodynamic consistency of the multi-scale GHC equation. Experimentally validated numerical results for density for pure components and mixtures, twoand three-phase equilibrium, comparisons with other cubic EOS, and geometric illustrations are presented to illustrate key ideas and to show that the GHC equation provides both accurate and thermodynamically consistent numerical results. © 2013 The Institution of Chemical Engineers. Investigation of Thermodynamic Consistency Test of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in Room-Temperature Ionic liquids using Generic van der Waals Equation of State
Thermodynamic consistency test of isothermal vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data of various binary systems containing Carbon dioxide (CO2)/Room temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) have been investigated in wide ranges of pressures in each isotherm precisely. In this paper Generic van der Waals (GvdW) equation of state (EoS) coupled with modified van der Waals Berthelot mixing rule has ...

Direct Monte Carlo simulation of internal energies of departure for binary mixtures of geological interest are gathered and compared to those calculated using a linear mixing rule. Simulation results for gas–oil, oil–oil, and oil–water mixtures show that the linear mixing rule used in the Gibbs–Helmholtz Constrained (GHC) equation of state framework gives accurate approximations of binary mixtu...
متن کاملAMultiscale Gibbs-Helmholtz Constrained Cubic Equation of State
This paper presents a radically new approach to cubic equations of state (EOS) in which the Gibbs-Helmholtz equation is used to constrain the attraction or energy parameter, a. The resulting expressions for a(T , p) for pure components and a(T , p, x) for mixtures contain internal energy departure functions and completely avoid the need to use empirical expressions like the Soave alpha function...
متن کاملLocal thermodynamics and the generalized Gibbs-Duhem equation in systems with long-range interactions.
The local thermodynamics of a system with long-range interactions in d dimensions is studied using the mean-field approximation. Long-range interactions are introduced through pair interaction potentials that decay as a power law in the interparticle distance. We compute the local entropy, Helmholtz free energy, and grand potential per particle in the microcanonical, canonical, and grand canoni...

The Michelsen stability and multiphase flash calculation by direct minimization of Gibbs free energy of the system at constant temperature and pressure, was used for systems containing gas hydrates. The solid hydrate phase was treated as a solid solution. The fugacities of all components of the hydrate phase were calculated as a function of compositions by the rearranged model of van der Wa...
