چکیده

In previous studies’-3 it was observed that the thioglycollate, peroxidase, neutral red, and serpentine cord tests were useful for group differentiation of M. tuberculosis, atypical acid-fast bacilli, and saprophytic mycobacteria. The present investigation was undertaken to determine further the differential potential of these procedures, and to ascertain whether the niacin test4’5 could also be used to help in the differentiation of these groups of organisms.

Background and Objective: Identification of atypical mycobacterium (Non tuberculosis Mycobacterium NTM) is important because of the worldwide propagation of these organisms. Recently, molecular studies have identified the specific loci for mycobacterium species by DNA - finger printing methods, but these methods are time-consuming and expensive. In this study, in addition to hsp65 PCR-RFLP meth...

Cord-forming property, lethality and pathogenicity of Mycobacteria.

The genus Mycobacterium include a great number of non-pathogenic organisms as well as some pathogenic species which cause tuberculosis in mammals, birds and cold-blooded animals. The differentiation between pathogenic strains and non-pathogenic ones is based on the lethal properties of the bacilli for experimental animals, particularly the guinea pig. A strain is not considered pathogenic when ...

Study of HIV seroprevalence in Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients with Special Reference to Multidrug Resistant Mycobacteria

This study was planned to determine HIV seroprevalence among pulmonary tuberculosis patients, to characterize the isolated mycobacteria into typical and atypical strains and to evaluate the drug resistant pattern of mycobacterial isolates. The study aims to correlate multidrug resistance (MDR) and HIV seropositivity status in pulmonary tuberculosis patients. During the year 1994-1997, 750 pulmo...

Identification of Mycobacterium kansasii by susceptibility to hydroxylamine.

Among biochemical tests useful in the study of mycobacteria, the hydroxylamine test is shown to be an effective tool in the differentiation of Mycobacterium kansasii from saprophytic strains of group III acid-fast bacilli when combined with the photochromogen test.
