چکیده

Introduction Constant-time point-resolved spectroscopy (CT-PRESS) [1] is a single voxel technique that simplifies the spectral pattern and permits the detection of Jcoupled resonances with high signal-to-noise ratio by using effective homonuclear decoupling [2]. The technique relies on non-selective refocusing, i.e., effective homonuclear decoupling is only achieved if the RF pulses refocus all the resonances in a J-coupled spin system. However, this cannot be achieved throughout the volume of the selected voxel due to the chemical-shift displacement error (CSDE) caused by the limited bandwidth of the sliceselective RF pulses, leading to signal loss for coupled resonances. In this study a broadband slice-selective 180° refocusing pulse (S-BURBOP [3]) was designed and implemented into CT-PRESS. It was evaluated and compared to a conventional Shinnar-Le Roux (SLR) pulse on a phantom and in vivo on healthy volunteers.

NMR Quantum Logic Gates for Homonuclear Spin Systems

If NMR systems are to be used as practical quantum computers, the number of coupled spins will need to be so large that it is not feasible to rely on purely heteronuclear spin systems. The implementation of a quantum logic gate imposes certain constraints on the motion of those spins not directly involved in that gate, the so-called “spectator” spins; they must be returned to their initial stat...

Apparent transverse relaxation rates in systems with coupled carbon-13 spins.

In systems with homonuclear scalar couplings, the envelopes of spin echoes obtained with simple refocusing pulses or trains of such pulses are normally modulated so that it is difficult to extract transverse relaxation rates. It has been shown recently that echo modulations can be quenched by cumulative pulse errors that arise after applying a large number of refocusing pulses with moderate rf ...

If J doesn't evolve, it won't J-resolve: J-PRESS with bandwidth-limited refocusing pulses.

There is increasing interest in the J-PRESS technique, an in vivo implementation of two-dimensional J-spectroscopy combined with PRESS localization, for high-field spectroscopy studies of the human brain. The experiment is designed to resolve scalar couplings in the second, indirectly detected dimension, but will only do so if the slice-selective refocusing pulses in the PRESS sequence affect a...

In vivo lactate editing in single voxel proton spectroscopy and proton spectroscopic imaging by homonuclear polarisation transfer.

Volume-selective lactate editing has been performed successfully in vitro and in vivo in the brain on a clinical scanner using a PRESS-based single voxel 1H spectroscopy and a 1H spectroscopic imaging sequence. The PRESS sequence was made sensitive to homonuclear polarisation by replacing the standard 180 degree refocusing pulses with 90 degree pulses. Two acquisitions were made at a total echo...
