Case Reports Factor V Leiden and Cardiopulmonary Bypass
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a case of a patient with factor V Leiden with an antithrombin III activity of 67%who received a successful aortic valve replacement supported by cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). A safe level of anticoagulation was achieved by monitoring activated clotting time (ACT) and heparin concentration ensuring adequate anticoagulation throughout the procedure. Results fromACT, heparin dose response, heparin protamine titration, and thrombelastography are given. Factor V Leiden patients can be safely anticoagulated using heparin for CPB procedures when monitored with ACT, heparin protamine titration, and thrombelastography. Postoperative chest tube losses were 360 mL, less than half our institutional average. Anticoagulation for the preand post-operative phase is also discussed.

Recurrent Pregnancy Loss in a Subject with Heterozygote Factor V Leiden Mutation; a Case Report
Recurrent pregnancy loss is usually defined as the loss of two or more consecutive pregnancies before 20 weeks of gestation, which occurs in approximately 5% of reproductive-aged women. It has been suggested that women with thrombophilia have an increased risk of pregnancy loss and other adverse pregnancy outcomes. Thrombophilia is an important predisposition to blood clot formation and is cons...
متن کاملFactor V Leiden does not affect bleeding in aprotinin recipients after cardiopulmonary bypass.
BACKGROUND Carriers of the factor V Leiden mutation (FVL) are resistant to activated protein C proteolysis. Therefore, they are at increased risk of thromboembolic events. Aprotinin is an unspecific proteinase inhibitor frequently used during cardiac surgery procedures to reduce bleeding. However, aprotinin may cause thromboembolic complications after cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). The primary e...
متن کاملVascular thrombosis associated with aprotinin and deep hypothermic circulatory arrest: where are we in 2006?
To the Editor:—I read with great interest the recent report by ShoreLesserson and Reich detailing diffuse venous thromboembolism in the setting of aprotinin and adult deep hypothermic circulatory arrest. To my knowledge, this is the first reported case of venous thrombosis associated with aprotinin and adult deep hypothermic circulatory arrest in the era of adequate heparinization, as defined b...
متن کاملDetermination of Serum C, S Proteins and Factor V Leiden among Patients with Sickle Cell Disorder at Khuzestan Province, Iran
Background: Sickle cell disease occurs due to a mutation in β chains and the substitution of valine instead of glutamate in the sixth position of the ß-chain that causes polymerization and vascular blockage. The aim of this study was to compare the serum C, S proteins and factor V Leiden between sickle cell patients and the control group. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, perf...
متن کاملFrequency of factor V Leiden (G1691A) and prothrombin (G20210A) polymorphisms in Population of Kerman Province, Iran
Background & Aims:Thromboembolism is an acute cardiovascular disease that ranges from clinically unimportant to massive embolism. Both acquired and hereditary risk factors contribute to the disease. We aimed to determine the prevalence of two hereditary predisposing factor of the disease, prothrombin G20210A and factor V Leiden (G1691A) polymorphisms, in Kerman population.<br /...
