The PANDA Experiment at FAIR
نویسنده
چکیده
The PANDA experiment is one of the large installations at the future international Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany. It will be located at an internal target station of the High Energy Storage Ring for anti-protons. The PANDA physics programme focusses on charmonium spectroscopy and the search for glueballs and hybrids, but also includes hypernuclear physics, investigations into the structure of the proton and a variety of other physics topics. The detector is designed as multipurpose set-up and is currently being planned and prepared by an international collaboration consisting of 350 physicists from 15 countries. The experimental setup includes a series of innovative detectors, e.g. a micro-vertex detector, barrel and disc DIRC detectors and a high resolution electromagnetic PbWO4 calorimeter with APD readout. FAIR The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research The project FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) will be an international accelerator facility of the next generation, located at the site of the existing GSI laboratory. At its heart is a double ring facility with a circumference of 1100 meters. A system of cooler-storage rings for effective beam cooling at high energies and various experimental halls will be connected to the facility. Figure 1 shows a schematic aerial view of the existing and future accelerators and buildings at GSI and FAIR. Physics Programme of PANDA at FAIR
The standard model and Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) have undergone rigorous tests at distances much shorter than the size of a nucleon. Up to now, the predicted phenomena are reproduced rather well. However, at distances comparable to the size of a nucleon, new experimental results keep appearing which cannot be described consistently by effective theories based on QCD. The physics of strange a...

The science goals underlying the future international Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research FAIR [1] that is being realized in Darmstadt span a broad range of research activities on the structure of matter. One component of this facility is directed towards studies of hadronic matter at the sub-nuclear level with beams of antiprotons. These studies focus on two key aspects: confinement of qu...
متن کاملPANDA Grid Activities
PANDA Grid is the present computing infrastructure of the PANDA@FAIR experiment, but concerted efforts are put into evolving it beyond that, into a complete and transparent solution for physics simulation, reconstruction and analysis, right at the fingertips of the physicist.

A characterisation of recently developed SiPM was performed in view of their possible application with scintillating fibres. The use of SiPM as part of the fibre tracking detector system of the Kaos spectrometer at MAMI was studied. A concept of similar SiPM/fibre assemblies is being considered for the time-of-flight start detector in the PANDA experiment for the FAIR project. In summary, the d...
متن کاملHigh density cluster jet target for PANDA
Cluster jet targets have been used successfully as internal targets at storage rings in many hadron physics experiments. As an example, the Münster type cluster jet targets are used in the currently running ANKE experiment and the former COSY-11 experiment, both situated at the COSY accelerator in the Forschungszentrum Jülich. Future experiments like the PANDA experiment at FAIR will be 4π-dete...
