چکیده
A simple physical model and theory have been proposed to investigate the electrocompression behavior of electrodeposited halide (chloride, bromide, and iodide) monolayer at the Au(111) electrode surface. By establishing the statistical thermodynamic formulas, the effective pair interaction energy, 2D spreading pressure, 2D isothermal compressibility, and electrode potential-coverage (θ-E) curves of halide monolayer at Au(111) surface have been calculated. The theoretical results are in good agreement with the experimental measurements, which show that the adatom-adatom interactions, especially repulsive interactions, determine the size of the compressibility in the halide adlayer on Au(111) surface with an increase in the electrode potential. The electrosorption valency γ of halide also plays an important role on the electrocompression. The theory in this paper is in principle applicable to other anion species at metal electrode surface.

Dynamic in situ characterization of organic monolayer formation via a Novel substrate-mediated mechanism.
Ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy data investigating octylsilane (C8H17SiH3) monolayer pattern formation on Au(111) are presented. The irregular monolayer pattern exhibits a 60 A length scale. Formation of the octylsilane monolayer relaxes the Au(111) 23 x square root3 surface reconstruction and ejects surface Au atoms. Au adatom diffusion epitaxially extends the Au(111) crystal la...

Investigations of octylsilane (C8H17SiH3) monolayer pattern formation on Au(111) are reported. Scanning tunneling microscopy data display the evolution of a approximately 6 nm scale pattern of interwoven features concomitant with ejection of surface Au atoms and relaxation of the Au(111) 23xsqrt[3] surface reconstruction. Numerical simulations suggest the surface dynamics are governed by a subs...

Stability of underpotentially deposited (upd) Ag layers on Au(111) surface was investigated by surface X-ray scattering (SXS). While the complete pseudomorphic Ag bilayer on Au(111) surface obtained by upd at 10 mV (vs. Ag/Ag) was maintained its structure even after the circuit was disconnected and the surface was exposed to ambient atmosphere, the pseudomorphic Ag monolayer obtained by upd at ...
متن کاملMolecular dynamics simulation of a DOPA/ST monolayer on the Au(111) surface.
In order to study the influence of molecular structure on the formation of a monolayer, two molecules have been considered, namely N-stearoyldopamine (DOPA) and 4-stearyl-catechol (ST). The difference between these two molecules is the amide group in DOPA. By investigating these monolayers at different surface areas per molecule, the molecular configurations of a DOPA/ST monolayer on the Au(111...

We report a Monte Carlo simulation study of the self-assembly of 1,4-benzenedithiolate (BDT), tetrahydrofuran (THF), and their mixtures on a Au (111) surface. We use the grand canonical Monte Carlo method to obtain the equilibrium adsorption coverage. Canonical ensemble (NVT) simulation is then used to explore further the structural information of the equilibrated systems. Our results indicate ...
