The Clinical Application of Cone Beam Ct in Orthodontics- a Review Article
نویسندگان
چکیده
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a recently developed imaging technology which gives advantageous low-dose radiation and high resolution dental imaging of the craniomaxillofacial anatomic structures in three dimensions (3D). During the last decade, many research studies have been done on the clinical efficacy of CBCT in dentistry. From the current literature, it’s obvious that even though a lot of research has been done on CBCT, no clear decision has been made about the application of CBCT in orthodontics. In this article, we focused on understanding the basic concepts of CBCT and its application in orthodontics. Future research needs to be done about various clinical application of CBCT in orthodontic treatment planning, procedures and final outcomes. Although having additional 3D information with accuracy is an advantage, but if the Field Of View (FOV) is increased, the additional detailed information might lead to lack of interpretation of minor details (such as external root resorption). More relevant clinical training is required for the orthodontists when it comes to reading CBCT imaging.

متن کاملCone Beam CT Evaluation of the Bony Changes in the Temporomandibular Joint and the Association with the Clinical Symptoms of Temporomandibular Joint Disorders
Introduction: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders are among the most prevalent abnormalities of the jaw, which affect the masticatory system, including the muscles, TMJ, and tendons. Clinical examination alone cannot determine the cause of temporomandibular disorder (TMD). In most cases, the cause of TMD and a proper treatment plan are determined based on imaging modalities. The present stu...

متن کاملCone-Beam Computed Tomography for Oral and Maxillofacial Imaging
The invention of computed tomography (CT) technique revolutionized diagnostic imaging. Compared to conventional X-ray imaging procedures, CT involves higher radiation doses. Recently, cone-beam CT (CBCT) specifically designed for maxillofacial imaging was introduced. CBCT technique is based on a cone-shaped X-ray beam centered on a twodimensional (2D) detector. The detector system performs one ...

Background: In intensity modulated radiation therapy, cone beam computed tomography (CT) has been used to evaluate patients prior to treatment. This study conducted a comparative evaluation of the image reconstruction ability of the clinically used half-fan bowtie filter and the full-fan bowtie filter. Materals and Methods: A CT simulation marker was inserted inside a human phantom, and the pel...
