چکیده

LSI +61 303 is one of the few X-ray binaries with Be star companion from which both radio and high-energy gamma-ray emission have been observed. We present XMM-Newton and INTEGRAL observations which reveal variability of the X-ray spectral index of the system. The X-ray spectrum is hard (photon index Γ ≃ 1.5) during the orbital phases of both high and low X-ray flux. However, the spectrum softens at the moment of transition from high to low X-ray state. The spectrum of the system in the hard X-ray band does not reveal the presence of a cut-off (or, at least a spectral break) at 10-60 keV energies, expected if the compact object is an accreting neutron star. The observed spectrum and spectral variability can be explained if the compact object in the system is a rotation powered pulsar.

Newton observation of a spectral state transition in the peculiar radio / X – ray / γ – ray source LS I + 61 303

We report the results of XMM-Newton and BeppoSAX observations of the radio and X–ray emitting star LS I +61 303, likely associated with the gamma-ray source 2CG 135+01 and recently detected also at TeV energies. The data include a long XMM-Newton pointing carried out in January 2005, which provides the deepest look ever obtained for this object in the 0.3–12 keV range. During this observation t...

XMM-Newton observations of GB B1428+4217: confirmation of intrinsic soft X-ray absorption

We report the results of XMM-Newton observations of the X-ray bright, radio-loud blazar GB B1428+4217 at a redshift of z = 4.72. We confirm the presence of soft X-ray spectral flattening at energies . 0.7 keV as reported in previous ROSAT and BeppoSAX observations. At hard X-ray energies the spectrum is consistent with a power-law although we find the spectral slope varied between both XMM-Newt...

Simultaneous X - ray and optical observations of S 5 0716 + 714 after the outburst of March 2004 ⋆

At the end of March 2004, the blazar S5 0716 + 714 underwent an optical outburst that prompted for quasi-simultaneous target-of-opportunity observations with the INTEGRAL and XMM-Newton satellites. In this paper, we report the results of the XMM-Newton and INTEGRAL OMC data analysis. The X-ray spectrum is well-represented by a concave broken power-law model, with the break at about 2 keV. In th...

Photometric and H observations of LSI + 61 303 : detection of a 26 day V and JHK band

We present new optical and infrared photometric observations and high resolution H spectra of the periodic radio star LSI+61 303. The optical photometric data set covers the time interval 1985-1993 and amounts to about a hundred nights. A period of 26 days is found in the V band. The infrared data also present evidence for a similar periodicity, but with higher amplitude of variation (0. m 2). ...
