چکیده

Business processes modelling helps to specify requirements to build an information system (IS), this is the requirements engineering (RE) process. The Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) is a business process modelling technique, this technique results in Business Process Diagrams (BPDs). However, business processes can not directly be translated to functional requirements of an IS (Vara & Sánchez, 2009). This gap was researched, a method for bridging the gap was developed, and the method was tested in practice. The researched gap seemed to be between the business and the system domain. Vara and Sánchez (2009, p. 124) define the goal of this method as ”to present an approach that provides methodological guidance to properly specify functional requirements from business processes”. This introduction will shortly explain the proposed approach. After the introduction, an example is used to elaborate on the method and related literature on the subject is discussed. The author of the method, Jose Luis de la Vara Gonzalez, is a PhD from the Technical University of Valencia. His field of interests lies within software methods, which lead him to work for the Research Centre on Software Production Methods. Ranging from 2007 to 2011, he has published fifteen papers. The other author of this method, Juan Sánchez, is an associate professor of computer engineering at the university of Murcia. Juan Sánchez published around 50 papers, ranging from 1999 to 2010. His papers mainly focus on software engineering, databases, and engineering. A global overview of the method is provided by Vara and Sánchez (2009), which can be seen in Figure 1. The method, or new approach as the paper

Business Process Verification: The Application of Model Checking and Timed Automata

The most important result to standardize the notation for graphical representation of Business Processes (BPs) is the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN). Despite the BPs modeled with BPMN being able to support business designers, BPMN models are not appropriate to support the analysis phase. BPMN models have no formal semantics to conduct qualitative analysis (validation and verificatio...

Formal Semantics and Automated Analysis of BPMN Process Models

The Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN) is a standard for capturing business processes in the early phases of systems development. The mix of constructs found in BPMN makes it possible to obtain models with a range of semantic errors. The ability to statically check the semantic correctness of models is thus a desirable feature for modelling tools based on BPMN. However, the static analy...

An Extended Resource Information Layer for BPMN

BPMN is an emerging standard for process modelling and has the potential to become a process specification language to capture and exchange process models between stakeholders and tools. Ongoing research and standardisation efforts target a formal behavioural semantics and metamodel. Yet it is hardly specified how humans are embedded in the processes and how the work distribution among human re...
