چکیده

35 With the increasing demand for sustainability, cycling is being encouraged as one of the efficient 36 active modes of transportation. However, cyclists are vulnerable to severe injuries when involved 37 in crashes which can discourage road users from cycling. Therefore, studying factors that affect 38 the safety of cyclists is important. This paper investigates the relationship between cyclist39 motorist crashes and various traffic zone characteristics in the city of Vancouver. The goal is to 40 assess the impact of socio-economics, land use, built environment, and road facility on cyclist 41 safety using macro-level collision prediction models. The models are developed using 42 generalized linear regression and full Bayesian techniques. An actual bike exposure indicator 43 (i.e. bike kilometers travelled) is used along with vehicle kilometers travelled as exposure 44 variables in the models. The safety models showed that cyclist-motorist crashes were non45 linearly associated with the increase in the bike, vehicle, and transit traffic. The crashes were also 46 found positively associated with the socio-economic variables (i.e. population, employment, and 47 household densities), built environment variables (transit stop, traffic signal, and light pole 48 densities), commercial area density, and arterial-collector roads proportion. On the other hand, 49 the models revealed a decline in cyclist-motorist crashes that was associated with the increase in 50 local roads and off-street bike links proportions, as well as the increase in recreational and 51 residential area densities. The spatial effects were accounted for in the full Bayes models and 52 were found significant which implies the importance of considering spatial correlation in 53 developing macro-level cyclist safety models. 54

Spatial modeling of bicycle activity at signalized intersections

This paper presents a methodology to investigate the link between bicycle activity and built environment, road and transit network characteristics, and bicycle facilities while also accounting for spatial autocorrelation between intersections. The methodology includes the normalization of manual cyclist counts to average seasonal daily volumes (ASDV), taking into account temporal variations and...

Assessing the Effects of Infrastructure, Land Use and Built-Environment on the Bicycle Mode Choice in Urban Trips Using A Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Approach

This study identified the most important variables affecting the choice of bicycles in urban travel in terms of infrastructure, land use, and environmental conditions and could be a roadmap for future studies with a special look at the variables related to land use. Cycling has long been a way of traveling, especially in urban settings. But choosing this mode of travel requires improvements to ...

Land use changes analysis and prediction using remote sensing and QGIS MOLUSCE Plugin in the Siahkal County

Quantifying land use change dynamics is critical in tackling environmental and socio-economic challenges such as climate change in recent years. This study takes Siahkal County in Guilan Province as the research subject and analyzes the land use changes in two different years: 2000 and 2021, and predicts the change in 2031. We carried out land use change analysis using LANDSAT-7 ETM+ and LANDSA...

Safer cycling in the urban road environment: study approach and protocols guiding an Australian study.

BACKGROUND Much of the research into cyclist safety in Australia has focused on behaviour with less focus on the impact of the urban transport environment on cyclist safety. A greater understanding of the urban transport system and the improvements needed to create a safer cycling environment are essential if cyclists are to be safe and increased cycling participation targets are to be achieved...

Microclimate land surface temperatures across urban land use/ land cover forms

Urbanization brings biophysical changes in the composition of the landscape. Such change has an impact on the thermal environment locally. The urban mosaic of land use and land cover is thus characteristically composed of local climate zones. The spatial variation in the land surface temperature across specific zone is studied for Bhopal city. The objective of the study was to understand how th...
