An 11-yearold female cheetah presented for routine laparoscopic ovariectomy. Abdominal palpation detected a midabdominal mass. Differential diagnoses were neoplasia and foreign body. Laparoscopic exploration of the peritoneal cavity revealed an omentalised mass, which was successfully removed with the aid of bipolar electrocoagulation. Microscopic investigation intraoperatively and postoperatively confirmed extensive foreign body-induced granulomatous inflammation. The foreign body was well encapsulated by fibrous tissue with no adjacent stricture formation. The patient made a complete recovery, and this is the first case report of a thorn-induced abdominal foreign body removed with minimally invasive surgery in a wild African carnivore.

Single-Incision Laparoscopic Sterilization of the Cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus).
OBJECTIVE To describe laparoscopic ovariectomy and salpingectomy in the cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) using single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS). STUDY DESIGN Prospective cohort. ANIMALS Female cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) (n = 21). METHODS Cheetahs were randomly divided to receive either ovariectomy (n = 11) or salpingectomy (n = 10). The use and complications of a SILS port was evalu...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass with single transumbilical incision--GelPoint®.
The innumerable advantages of laparoscopic gastric bypass have stimulated the development of new and less invasive laparoscopic techniques, such as single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS). This novel approach provides the introduction of multiple laparoscopic instruments through a single incision at the umbilicus or at a place near the operated structure.1 SILS performed via an umbilical in...

Single-incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) is a novel area of minimally invasive surgery, and rapidly evolving in the field of abdominal surgery. However, SILS is not a common procedure for pancreatic surgery. We describe our first experience with a SILS approach in a patient with a metastatic pancreatic tumor. We performed a SILS distal pancreatectomy (SILS-DP) using 3 trocars placed through ...
متن کاملSingle incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) cholecystectomy: where are we?
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become gold standard for cholecystectomy. The tendency of minimizing surgical trauma encourages the use of new approaches in laparoscopic surgery. Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) cholecystectomy was first performed ten years ago; however, it is only recent technologic development that has enabled its wider acceptance. We report on a case of a 69-year...

BACKGROUND Single incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) is an emerging technique that has been used as an approach for appendectomy, cholecystectomy, and splenectomy. We describe the technique of single incision laparoscopic splenectomy for hypersplenism in a 5-year-old boy with spherocytosis. CASE REPORT The patient required blood transfusions for anemia secondary to hypersplenism. His spleen...
