partial volume), or disease-related.3 Disease-related artefacts have been reported to include impacted mucus in the bronchi, perivascular edema, or pulmonary artery sarcoma. However, as far as we are aware, this is the first description of structural changes (such as presented by our 2 patient) causing anatomical distortion of the pulmonary arteries, that in turn produced intravascular turbulence of blood and intravenous contrast flow.4,5 We believe that these 2 cases underline the importance of understanding the physiopathology and intravascular hemodynamic consequences of structural changes in the chest that cause an anatomical distortion of the pulmonary arteries, in order to avoid misinterpretation during CTPA procedures.

Cell-mediated immune response during primary Chlamydia pneumoniae infection.

The development of Chlamydia pneumoniae-specific cell-mediated immunity was studied during a primary C. pneumoniae infection. The immune response was detected as positive lymphocyte proliferation and secretion of interferon gamma. C. pneumoniae-induced activation of both CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells was detected in the early phase of infection, but activation of only CD4(+) T cells was detected in...

Acute hemorrhagic pericarditis in a child with pneumonia due to Chlamydophila pneumoniae.

Chlamydophila pneumoniae is mainly responsible for respiratory tract infections but has also been associated with endocarditis and myocarditis. We report a case of pneumonia in a child with hemorrhagic pericardial effusion with a positive result by a new C. pneumoniae TaqMan PCR, suggesting a pericardial inflammation directly induced by C. pneumoniae. C. pneumoniae should be suspected in patien...

Detection of Chlamydophila pneumoniae IgG in paired serum samples: comparison of serological techniques in pneumonia cases.

Serological diagnosis of Chamydophila pneumoniae is usually undertaken by complement fixation test (CFT) or by microimmunofluorescence (MIF). A number of commercial methods for detecting C. pneumoniae-specific IgG have been developed. The aim of this study was to compare the performance characteristics of six methods for the diagnosis of pneumonia due to C. pneumoniae, including CFT (in house),...

Nod1-mediated endothelial cell activation by Chlamydophila pneumoniae.

Seroepidemiological and animal studies, as well as demonstration of viable bacteria in atherosclerotic plaques, have linked Chlamydophila pneumoniae infection to development of chronic vascular lesions and coronary heart disease. Inflammation and immune responses are dependent on host recognition of invading pathogens. The recently identified cytosolic Nod proteins are candidates for intracellu...
