چکیده

This paper aims to identify central points in road networks considering traffic demand. This is made with a variation of betweenness centrality. In this variation, the graph that corresponds to the road network is weighted according to the number of routes generated by the traffic demand. To test the proposed approach three networks have been created, which are Porto Alegre and Sioux Falls cities and a regular 10 × 10 grid. Then, trips were microscopically simulated and the results were compared with the proposed method.

A Fast Approach to the Detection of All-Purpose Hubs in Complex Networks with Chemical Applications

A novel algorithm for the fast detection of hubs in chemical networks is presented. The algorithm identifies a set of nodes in the network as most significant, aimed to be the most effective points of distribution for fast, widespread coverage throughout the system. We show that our hubs have in general greater closeness centrality and betweenness centrality than vertices with maximal degree, w...

Analysis of Traffic Behavior in Regular Grid and Real World Networks

Traffic jams are reality in many cities and the current ways to deal with the problem always incur costs for citizens. This paper aims to understand the traffic behavior in a regular grid and in a real world network, with uniform and non-uniform demands and different demand loads. To analyze traffic flow, two metrics are used: waiting vehicles and the correlation ratio between the edge occupati...

Reliability of San Francisco-Bay Area Road Network

Road network is an important infrastructure in society. On average, every American drives 13,476 miles a year, spending over 200 hours on traveling. Out of the 200 hours, 38 hours are wasted during congestion, wasting $121 billion on fuel cost a year.1,2 Thus, a well-designed road network, which leads to less congestion and thus have significant economic ramifications. Unlike many other network...

Modified Betweenness Centrality for Predicting Traffic Flow

Centrality measures define the relationship between particular structural features of a network. Although network analysis has been utilized to express the most relevant physical, topological and static properties of networks, dynamic and temporal aspects are mostly disregarded. For example, in travel network studies the physical street network is assumed to be static, although it can have rele...
