چکیده

This work deals with the application of the micromechanical Gurson-Tvergaard (GT) model to the determination of the residual strength of analuminumflat stiffened panel (2024 T3) with a central through crack, by means of finite element simulations. The load condition is represented by a monotonic traction along the direction orthogonal to the crack plane. The used Finite Element code is WARP 3D, which allows simulating ductile damage propagation by considering the GT model. Numerical results have been compared with experimental ones available in literature. In the second part of the work, a home madeprocedurefounded on the SDI (Stochastic Design Improvement) technique is presented and applied to the improvement of the residual strength properties of the considered panel.

A Strategy for a Robust Design of Cracked Stiffened Panels

This work is focused on the numerical prediction of the fracture resistance of a flat stiffened panel made of the aluminium alloy 2024 T3 under a monotonic traction condition. The performed numerical simulations have been based on the micromechanical Gurson-Tvergaard (GT) model for ductile damage. The applicability of the GT model to this kind of structural problems has been studied and assesse...

Experimental Study of Sable Crack Growth in Thin Aluminium Sheet

Recent failure information from research teams in NASA Langley and others has shown that CTOA based fracture models calibrated on large C(T) and M(T) specimens can be transferred successfully to cracked aircraft fuselage structures for the assessment of their residual strength. A major difficulty that could limit the more extensive use of this failure parameter is its experimental measurement e...

Strengthening Mechanisms in the Aged 2024 and 7075 Aluminium Alloys

Aluminum 2024 and 7075 alloys which are widely used in aerospace and marine applications were chosen to investigate their strengthening mechanisms. Using differential thermal analysis (DIA), metallography and tension tests, the best solutionizing conditions were determined to be 500±5°C and 2 hours for 2024 and 480?±5°C and 1 hour for 7075 alloy. Aging was performed in the range of 100 to 200°C...
