is greenhouse gas forcing a plausible explanation for the observed warming in the Baltic sea catchment area ?

چکیده

We investigated whether anthropogenic forcing is a plausible explanation for the observed warming in the Baltic Sea catchment area. Therefore, we compared the most recent trends in the surface temperature over land with anthropogenic climate change projections from regional climate model simulations. We analyzed patterns of change with different spatiotemporal resolutions. The observed annual area-mean change in the daily-mean temperature was consistent with the anthropogenic climate change signal. This finding was robust to the removal of the signal of the North Atlantic Oscillation. In contrast to the annual areamean change, we found little consistency in both annual cycle and spatial variability of the observed and projected changes.

Detailed assessment of climate variability in the Baltic Sea area for the period 1958 to 2009

The warming trend for the entire globe (1850 to 2005) is 0.04°C decade–1. A specific warming period started around 1980 and continues until the present. This warming also occurred in the Baltic Sea catchment, which lies between maritime temperate and continental subarctic climate zones. A detailed study of climate variability and the associated impact on the Baltic Sea area for the period 1958 ...

Sensitivity of the overturning circulation of the Baltic Sea to climate change, a numerical experiment

the Danish Straits give the Baltic Sea typical sill estuarine dynamics. Although many dynamical features of the Baltic Sea are geostrophic, due to its size, it is still an estuary. As for any estuarine structure, the amount of freshwater delivered to the estuary generates an overturning circulation in the same sense as that described by Garvine and Whitney (2006). This means that the delivery o...

Deoxygenation of the Baltic Sea during the last century.

Deoxygenation is a global problem in coastal and open regions of the ocean, and has led to expanding areas of oxygen minimum zones and coastal hypoxia. The recent expansion of hypoxia in coastal ecosystems has been primarily attributed to global warming and enhanced nutrient input from land and atmosphere. The largest anthropogenically induced hypoxic area in the world is the Baltic Sea, where ...

Considering the effect of climate change on catchment runoff by the use of HadCM3 model under the scenarios of greenhouse gas emissions (case study: Karun catchment area in SHalu bridge site)

Climate change is one of the most important challenges which has effect on river runoff. Warmer climatic conditions have intensified the water cycle, rainfall changes, runoff time and amount. There were several studies with different result on this subject all over the world. Due to the importance of karoun zone and lack of studies, the researcher tried to study the effects of this phenomenon o...
