چکیده

ESL is the application language of the Stream Mill system that supports2: • Continuous queries on data streams, • Ad hoc queries on (i) database tables and (ii) on concrete views created from streaming data, • Spanning applications that combine and compare incoming live data with stored data. ESL is based on SQL to help users to learn it, and use it on spanning applications. For the same reasons, ESL strives to minimize the SQL extensions introduced to handle data streams (rather than database tables). Within this minimalist’s approach, however, ESL provides a quantum leap in expressive power: ESL is Turing complete and can support efficiently applications that are well beyond the capabilities of SQL:2003 —e.g., Data Mining queries and time series queries. This report is as short tutorial on ESL for simple data stream applications; the reader should refer to http:\\wis.cs.ucla.edu for more advanced applications, including data mining queries and time series queries. The main contributors to the design and implementation of ESL and Stream Mill are: Yijian Bai ([email protected]), Richard Chang Luo ([email protected]), Hetal Thakkar ([email protected]), Haixun Wang ([email protected]), and Carlo Zaniolo ([email protected]) Feature not yet implemented.

Efficient Support for Time Series Queries in Data Stream Management Systems

There is much current interest in supporting continuous queries on data streams using generalizations of database query languages, such as SQL. The research challenges faced by this approach include (i) overcoming the expressive power limitations of database languages on data stream applications, and (ii) providing query processing and optimization techniques for the data stream execution envir...

Evaluate the Ability of Autistic Children to Use Expressive Language and Receptive Language

Introduction: In early typical language development, children understand words before they are able to use them in speech. Children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) generally show impairments in both the comprehension and the production of language. However, the relative degree of delay or impairment in each of these sub-domains may also be atypical and remains less well-understood. Materia...

The Effect of English Vowel-Recognition Training on Beginner and Advanced Iranian ESL Learners

This study was an attempt to investigate the effect of vowel-recognition training on beginner and advanced Iranian ESL learners. A total of 36 adult Iranian ESL learners (18 advanced and 18 beginners) who were students of various majors at Memorial University (MUN) were recruited for the study. Advanced participants had the experience of living in Canada for at least three years while beginners...

Towards a Reappraisal of Literary Competence within the Confines of ESL/EFL Classroom

The present paper aimed at highlighting the judicious incorporation of literary genres (i.e. novel, short story/fiction, drama, and poetry) as a supposedly inspiring teaching technique and an allegedly potent learning resource into ESL/EFL curricula. The rationale behind this pedagogical inclusion is to promote both teaching and learning effectiveness through capitalizing intensively on the gen...
