چکیده
Morphology of sympathetic nervous system of adrenal medulla was observed in VVistar rats injected with subcutaneous nicotine. They vvere injected subcutaneously with low dose (2 mg/kg/day) or high dose (4 mg/kg/day) nicotine for seven weeks. Morphological changes in the medulla of adrenal glands vvere investigated in detail using electron microscopy. Uitrastructurally, we found that the appearance of sinusoids and endothelial cells containing epinephrine (E) and norepineprine (NE) granules vvere normal. İn both low and high dose nicotine treatment groups, the granules vvithin cells secreting E and NE were dense. Furthermore, in addition to an enlargment in the sinusoids of the adrenal medulla, depositions in the nuclei and an excessive vacuolisation due to increased secretion especialiy in NE secreting cells vvere noted. There was also hypertrophy of the vvalls of endothelial cells around sinusoids in animals treated vvith high-dose nicotine. We conclude that nicotine has a dose-dependent effect causing obvious morphological changes on the sympathetic nervous system of adrenal medulla in rats, suggesting its hypertensive effect.

Effects of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes on Micro-Anatomical Changes of Adrenal Gland in Male Wistar Rats
Background & Aims: Changing the hormonal output of endocrine glands, diabetes leads to the occurrence of secondary metabolic disorders. Neuropathy, on the other hand, is the most common neurological complication of diabetes which affects the neuroendocrine system, in addition to peripheral and autonomic nervous system, contributing to exacerbation of disease severity. In this line, the present ...
متن کاملAction of tyramine on the salivary amylase secretion from rabbit parotid gland in reference to that of nicotine.
The salivary glands, which are innervated by both sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, receive their main secretory innervation from the parasympathetic nerv ous system (1). It was reported that sympathetic nervous system played an important role in secretion of amylase, a main component of parotid saliva, and that the Q receptors were the ones involved in this mechanism (2-5). It w...
متن کاملCurcumin Protection against Nicotine Induced Histological Changes of the Chromaffin Cells of Adrenal Medulla in Mice
Introduction: Smoking can affect hormone secretion; some of these effects are associated with important clinical implications. These effects are mainly mediated by the action of nicotine. Curcumin is a well known antioxidant agent. Aim of the work: To study the protective role of curcumin against nicotine induced toxic effects on the adrenal medulla. Methods: Thirty adult male mice were used an...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Neuroendocrine System and the cytokine pattern in warm and cold nature persons.
Introduction: Traditional Iranian medicine (TIM) is accompanied by little side effects in experience. The mechanisms involved in TIM are not much clear. The purpose of this study is assessment of differences of warm and cold nature persons in neuroendocrine system and cytokine pattern (Th1/Th2) of immune responses. Methods: Thirty seven 20 to 40 years old male volunteers were divided into 2 ...
متن کاملEffects of Noise Exposure on the Volume of Adrenal Gland and Serum Levels of Cortisol in Rat
Background: Noise pollution is considered as a stressful factor in every day’s life of the industrial world. The present study was designed to investigate the probable effects of different time exposure of noise stress on histomorphometric changes of adrenal gland, plasma cortisol and body weight of the rat. Methods: Sixty adult male Wistar rats were divided into two series of short time noise ...
