Operational and astronomer support issues in real life AO systems

چکیده
Both the ADONIS (at ESO) and PUEO (at CFHT) adaptive optics systems have been in general use for several years, totalizing over 400 nights of scheduled observing time. They are routinely producing near-infrared diffraction-limited images under reasonable seeing conditions and a significant number of papers have now been published reporting astrophysical results obtained with adaptive optics. In this paper, I present the experience we have gained using these two systems, from the user and support astronomer points of view. I review the whole observing process from the preparation of the observations to the data reduction, including the proper calibration of the data, etc.

Behavioral Considerations in Developing Web Information Systems: User-centered Design Agenda
The current paper explores designing a web information retrieval system regarding the searching behavior of users in real and everyday life. Designing an information system that is closely linked to human behavior is equally important for providers and the end users. From an Information Science point of view, four approaches in designing information retrieval systems were identified as system-...
متن کاملFlexible resource management and its effect on project cost and duration
In practice, most projects result in cost overruns and schedule slippage due to poor resource management. This paper presents an approach that aims at reducing project duration and costs by empowering project managers to assess different scenarios. The proposed approach addresses combinatorial modes for tasks, multi-skilled resources, and multiple calendars for resources. A case study reported ...
متن کاملEdison the scientist.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Edison's invention of the electric lamp, one of many heralded accomplishments that brought him lasting fame. For much of life Edison enjoyed a popular reputation as a laboratory genius who personified the spirit of scientific discovery. Was he really a scientist, or only an inventor? His participation in the Draper Expedition to the solar eclipse of 1878...
متن کاملWhat AO can Deliver to the Astronomer Today { and what an Astronomer Would Like to Find in the Software Toolbox
Over the past few years high-resolution imaging with adaptive optics has become an important technique with a wide variety of applications in Solar System physics, stellar astronomy, and extragalactic research. Much of the recent progress can be attributed to a few key factors: the growing number of astronomers who have access to user-friendly AO systems, improvements in the limiting magnitude ...
متن کاملA life cycle cost based approach of O&M support for mechanical systems
Performance of mechanical systems over their life cycle is the main concern of users. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of such systems are made to deliver customized products with documented support to meet the objective. The product support is of various kinds, one of these is operation and maintenance (O&M) support. Cost incurred for each support action adds to the system life cycle co...
