Studies on the Transfer of Fertilized Mouse Eggs to Uterine Foster-mothers Ii. the Effect of Transferring Large Numbers of Eggs
نویسنده
چکیده
INTRODUCTION In the previous paper of this series (McLaren & Michie, 1956) we described an experiment in which fertilized mouse eggs were transferred to the left uterine horn of recipient foster-mothers which were themselves pregnant with eggs of their own. Over the range tested (0-18 eggs), as the number of fertilized eggs transferred to the recipient female was increased, the number of embryos developing from them increased proportionately. We were thus unable to find a limit to the number of mouse embryos which could implant in a single uterine horn. There was, however, a suggestion that post-implantational mortality was greater when the total number of embryos implanted in a single horn was high. The present work extends the range of inoculum sizes to thirty eggs, in order to investigate further the relation between implantation number and embryonic mortality, and also to determine whether a' law of diminishing returns' would set in when larger numbers of eggs were transferred.

Comparative study on the Structure of Zona Radiata in Pre- and Post-fertilized Mature Eggs of the Viviparous Molly (Poecilia sphenops) and the Oviparous Bighead Carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis)
In the present research, modification of the zona radiata (ZR) around the molly (Poecilia sphenops, Valencinnes 1846) and bighead carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis, Richardson 1845) oocytes and in the zygotes were studied for pre- and post-fertilization stages and its relationship with the reproductive strategy. Light and scanning electron microscopic studies on the histological sections of...

Introduction: The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique permits to monitor the development of the embryo in vivo without causing any developmental defects. Although increasing application of MRI imaging are predicted in veterinary sciences, there is little information available about MRI studies of avian embryos and their eggs. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the o...

This study was conducted to reveal the estrogenic effects of bisphenol A and o, p’-DDT on quailembryos. Thirteen fertilized eggs were used as control (injected with 20 μl corn oil), 15 eggs were injectedwith estradiol 17β (0.04 mg dissolved in 20 μl corn oil), 20 eggs were injected with BPA (2 mg dissolved in20 μl corn oil) and 20 eggs were injected with o, p’-DDT (2 mg dissolved in 20 μl corn ...
متن کاملViability and growth of mouse embryos after in vitro culture and fusion.
About 80 % of 8-cell mouse eggs developed to the blastocyst stage in culture, whether the zona pellucida was left intact, or removed with pronase (pre-incubated and dialysed) and the eggs then cultured singly or as fused pairs. When pronase was used without prior incubation and dialysis, the success rate was reduced to 50 %. After transfer to uterine foster-mothers, 20-30 % of apparently normal...
