Phonatory vibrations in singers. A critical review
نویسنده
چکیده
Most Westem opera singers report feeling phonatory vibrations, i.e., vibrations caused by phonation, in different parts of their bodies while singing. As one perceives one's own voice quite differently from one's listeners, it has been hypothesized that phonatory vibrations may be useful as a feedback signal for the control of phonation. These vibrations have been examined in some articles which are reviewed. It is concluded that in singing at fundamental frequencies lower than about 350 Hz (pitch F4). the amplitudes of the vibrations in the chest wall may be easy to use as a feedback signal, as they reflect an aspect of phonation which is relevant to singers. However, vibrations in the face and the skull seem to vary considerably between different vowels and can, therefore, be assumed to be more difficult to use for controlling phonation which is basically independent of vowel quality.

Analysis of supraglottic activity during vocalization in healthy singers.
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS The present study aims to evaluate the degree of anterior-posterior and medial supraglottic laryngeal compression in healthy singers of different voice classifications while singing different pitches, loudness, and phonatory tasks. STUDY DESIGN Prospective study. METHODS Thirty-six classically trained singers (11 sopranos, 11 mezzo-sopranos, six tenors, and eight barit...
متن کاملConsistency of inhalatory breathing patterns in professional operatic singers.
Respiratory behavior is generally considered important to voice function, the assumption being that it affects the voice source. Accurate and consistent control of the voice source is particularly important in professional operatic singing. An erratic behavior of a factor influencing voice production is incompatible with a well-controlled vocal behavior. We analyzed the consistency of inhalator...

Karaoke singing is a very popular entertainment among young people in Asia. It is a leisure singing activity with the singer's voice amplified with special acoustic effects in the backdrop of music. Music video and song captions are shown on television screen to remind the singers during singing. It is not uncommon to find participants singing continuously for four to five hours each time. متن کاملCharacteristics of phonatory function in singers and nonsingers with vocal fold nodules.
PURPOSE The goals of this study were to determine if there were significant differences between singers and nonsingers in the morphology of vocal nodules and the associated impact on vocal function. METHOD Participants were 10 professionally trained singers with nodules, eight nonsingers with nodules, and 10 individuals with healthy normal voice (controls). Surface electromyography (sEMG) fro...

Using inverse filtering, voice source characteristics related to vocal £old adductory force, and the first formant frequency, are analyzed in six professional male singers and six male nonsingers repeatedly phonating the syllable /pae:/ in loud and soft phonation at different fundamental frequencies throughout the subjects' ranges. For each voice sample, inverse filtered air flow was recorded a...
