Education via Nets

In this paper we describe in some detail the project Education via Nets currently conducted at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Karlsruhe. The goal of this project is to introduce the support of teaching and learning through multimedia technology. We will in particular address the issue of information systems, visualisation and educational software. A central feature of this approach is the installation of a central LearnServer from which all material related to the offered lecture courses may be obtained electronically. This includes access to digital libraries containing electronic copies of text books and lecture notes enhanced by multimedia supplements. This is seen as a step to build the necessary infrastructure that will eventually lead to a virtual campus.
