Hardware in the Loop Platform Development for Hybrid Vehicles

Powertrain modeling provides invaluable insight during the architecture selection and component sizing powertrain design phases. A model-based design process from the initial design phase to the operational prototype phase includes a series of intermediary steps that are required to integrate the real-time and physical limitations of the control systems development prior to invehicle testing. Software-in-the-loop (SIL) followed by Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation of control algorithms and control hardware should be performed. The major benefits of the SIL/HIL sequence are reduced development cost and time, and improved safety as control systems can be evaluated, and to a large extent validated, prior to vehicle deployment.
