چکیده
This paper presents a study of automatic detection and recognition of bird species based on bioacoustics. The energy distribution in different frequency bands varies quite significantly among different birds’ sounds. Energy in various frequency bands is extracted using wavelet packet transform and k-nearest neighbor algorithm is used for classification. In our experiment, classification accuracy of 91% is achieved for the classification of eight bird species. A total of 307 bird sound files are used to train/test the system. Keywords— Bioacoustics, Syllables, Wavelet Packet Transform, k-nearest neighbor.

The Xeno-canto Collection and its Relation to Sound Recognition and Classification
This paper discusses distinguishing characteristics of the Xenocanto bird sound collection. The main aim is to indicate the relation between automated recognition of bird sounds (or feature recognition in digital recordings more generally) and curating large bioacoustics collections. Not only do large collections make it easier to design robust algorithmic approaches to automated species classi...

Advanced soundscape analysis or machine listening are requiring efficient time frequency decompositions. The recent scattering theory is offering a robust hierarchical convolutional decomposition, nevertheless its kernels need to be fixed. The CNN can be seen as the optimal kernel decomposition, nevertheless it requires large amount of training data. This paper aims to show that Chirplet kernel...
متن کاملAutomatic Identification of Animal Breeds and Species Using Bioacoustics and Artificial Neural Networks
In this research endeavor, it was hypothesized that the sound produced by animals during their vocalizations can be used as identifiers of the animal breed or species even if they sound the same to unaided human ear. To test this hypothesis, three artificial neural networks (ANNs) were developed using bioacoustics properties as inputs for the respective automatic identification of 13 bird speci...

Autonomous audio recording is stimulating new field in bioacoustics, with a great promise for conducting cost-effective species surveys. One major current challenge is the lack of reliable classifiers capable of multi-species identification. We present PROTAX-Sound, a statistical framework to perform probabilistic classification of animal sounds. PROTAX-Sound is based on a multinomial regressio...
متن کاملBioacoustic Profiles: Evaluating Potential Masking of Wildlife Vocal Communication by Highway Noise
Highway noise can mask vocal communication and natural sounds important to wildlife for mate attraction, social cohesion, predator avoidance, prey detection, navigation, and other basic behaviors. This acoustic interference can potentially result in the reduced ability of individuals to acquire mates successfully, reproduce, raise young, and avoid predation. Because different species have evolv...
