Constancy of Deoxyribonucleic Acid Base Composition in the Transition of Sphaerophorus Necrophorus from Bacilli to Large Bodies.

چکیده
Controversy exists concerning the relation or distinction of pleuropneumonia-like organisms (PPLO) and L-type erganisms (Smith, Bacteriol. Rev. 28:97, 1964). While some feel that PPLO and L organisms may be identical, i.e., that PPLO are stabilized forms derived from bacteria (Barile et al., Oral Surg. Oral Med. Oral Pathol. 16:1395, 1963), others recognize sufficient differences to warrant placing the PIPLO in the genus Mycoplasma (Klieneberger-Nobel, Pleuropneumonia-Like Organisms (PPLO) Mlycoplasmataceae, Academic Press, Inc., New York, 1962). Determination of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) base composition of bacterial cells shows promise as an aid in microbial taxonomy (Marmur et al., Ann. Rev. Microbiol. 17:329, 1963). Little is known about the DNA base composition of L organisms or l'l'LO. If it could be presumed that the DNA composition of a given bacterial species remains constant throughout transition to L organisms, then DNA base ratio analyses would be useful in the characterization of L forms and PPLO. Sphaerophorus necrophorus (Bacteroides funduliformis) is one of the few bacteria which provides a model system for this transition, since it spontaneously gives rise to L forms in appropriate media. Effect of bile and desoxycholate on gram-negative anaerobic bacteria.
The bile tests for characterizing gram-negative anaerobic bacilli were reevaluated in prereduced anaerobically sterilized peptone-yeast-glucose broth, in thioglycollate broth, and on blood agar plates. Blood agar plates were unsatisfactory. The combination of 20% bile with 0.1% desoxycholate inhibited Fusobacterium, Bacteroides melaninogenicus, and B. oralis and sometimes Sphaerophorus necropho...

Sphaerophorus necrophorus (bovine liver abscess isolates) antiserum was fractionated and labeled with fluorescein isothiocyanate. The fluorescent-antibody (FA) conjugate proved to be species-specific and facilitated the detection of S. necrophorus cells in liver abscesses, viscera, and ruminal contents of cattle. Brightly fluorescing S. necrophorus cells were observed in experimentally inoculat...
متن کاملAntibiotic susceptibility patterns as aids in classification and characterization of gram-negative anaerobic bacilli.
Patterns of susceptibility of gram-negative anaerobic bacilli to antibiotics have been found to be distinctive and of significant help in classification and identification. Five major groups of gram-negative anaerobic bacilli have been defined on the basis of morphological and biochemical criteria. Antibiotic sensitivity patterns conform to these groupings and provide additional taxonomic crite...

Schiff base complexes of transition metals are of particular interest to inorganic chemists because of their structural, spectral and chemical properties, which are often strongly dependant on the nature of the ligand structure. Large number of metal (II) complexes with Schiff-base ligands has been extensively studied for their interesting structural specialties, applications and properties. Th...
متن کاملDesign of Biosensors Based Transition-Metal Dichalcogenide for DNA-base Detection: A First-Principles Density Functional Theory Study
The main function purpose of nanobiosensors is to sense a biologically specific material and the kind of sensing platform and doping engineering has been an emerging topic and plays an important role in monolayer molybdenum disulfide (mMoS2). In this paper, we theoretically reveal the electronic structures of mMoS2 doped by 3d transition metals. Furthermore, adsorption of nucleic acid [Adenine ...
