Digitally Enhanced Reality
نویسندگان
چکیده
T he history of wearable computing reaches all the way back to the 1980s, with people like Steve Mann and Thad Starner using wearable devices to augment their senses and capture their everyday experiences.1 However, recent developments have brought about a fundamental shift in the digital augmentation of reality. In the near future, it will be feasible to continuously record a plethora of personal experiences— what we see and hear and even our vital signals—and provide both in-situ and pre-emptive access to related information, past experiences, and social exchange. This might significantly change the way we interact with others, remember our past, and share our experiences.

Picometer level displacement metrology with digitally enhanced heterodyne interferometry.
Digitally enhanced heterodyne interferometry is a laser metrology technique employing pseudo-random codes phase modulated onto an optical carrier. We present the first characterization of the technique's displacement sensitivity. The displacement of an optical cavity was measured using digitally enhanced heterodyne interferometry and compared to a simultaneous readout based on conventional Poun...
متن کاملAc 2012-3423: Sustaincity a Interactive Virtual Reality Game Promoting Engineering Design in Pre-engineering Curriculum
This paper presents a working-in-progress project that designs a virtual reality (VR) game system to infuse cyberinfrastructure (CI) learning experiences into the pre-engineering classrooms and to promote science and engineering design in context. Using city infrastructure as the theme and engineers solving real-life problems as the scenes, the games of future sustainable city design engage stu...
متن کاملAdaptive Rooms, Virtual Collaboration and Cognitive Workflow
This paper introduces the concept of Adaptive Rooms, which are virtual environments able to dynamically adapt to users’ needs, including ‘physical’ and cognitive workflow requirements, number of users, differing cognitive abilities and skills. Adaptive rooms are collections of virtual objects, many of them self-transforming objects, housed in an architecturally active room with information spac...
متن کاملDeveloping, Implementing, and Testing Mixed Reality and High Interaction Media Applications in Schools
Current pedagogical approaches emphasize the procurement of media literacy in classroom learning. In this respect, mixed reality systems and high interaction media applications provide potentially exciting learning experiences for children by bridging the gap between theoretical and experiential learning in the physical world. We describe the constructive implementation of digitally augmented l...
متن کاملConsiderations of Generic Framework for AR on the Web A Position Paper for W3C’s AR on the Web Workshop
Augmented reality (AR) is a term for a live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are merged with (or augmented by) computer-generated virtual imagery – creating a mixed reality. In the case of Augmented Reality, the augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in meaningful context with environmental elements. With the help of advanced Computer Vision t...
