چکیده

Specularities on surfaces with tangential hairs or grooves are readily observable in nature. Examples of such phenomena are the arched or looped highlights observed on horses and on human heads and the linear or curved specularities observed on parts of industrial machinery that have tangential grooves. We investigate the geometry of curvilinear specularities on surfaces of different curvature with tangential hairs or grooves of different orientation, under controlled lighting and viewing conditions. First the nature of these specularities is investigated qualitatively. Then specularities on parametric surfaces and hair or groove orientations are calculated for some specific cases. Explicit calculations of specularities on some special surfaces, cylinders, cones, and spheres, are verified by photographs of the reflections. Aspects of the work are applicable to computer graphics and can be utilized for the image interpretation of surface specularities.

Color Constancy with Specular and Non-Specular Surfaces

There is a growing trend in machine color constancy research to use only image chromaticity information, ignoring the magnitude of the image pixels. This is natural because the main purpose is often to estimate only the chromaticity of the illuminant. However, the magnitudes of the image pixels also carry information about the chromaticity of the illuminant. One such source of information is th...

Chahar-Gonbad copper mine, in Kerman province, has mainly formed as veins with low reserves and medium grade. Mineralization is mainly occured as chalcopyrite, pyrite, rare galena and sphalerite. Sericitic, argillic and propylitic alterations have been identified in this are deposit. These alteration occurod in the thermal range of about 350 C. Fracturing at contact surfaces subjected to normal and tangential loads

A variety of rock engineering problems including drilling, cutting, abrasion and milling involve rock-tool contact and indentation. The pattern of indentation fractures and the role of slip conditions, surface roughness, tool radius, and initial aw size for an arbitrarily loaded contact are not fully known. The present paper aims to identify the elastic stress eld for a contact subjected to bot...

On the Motion and Appearance of Specularities in Image Sequences

Real scenes are full of specularities (highlights and reflections), and yet most vision algorithms ignore them. In order to capture the appearance of realistic scenes, we need to model specularities as separate layers. In this paper, we study the behavior of specularities in static scenes as the camera moves, and describe their dependence on varying surface geometry, orientation, and scene poin...

Motion of specularities on low-relief surfaces: frequency domain analysis

Typical studies of the visual motion of specularities have been concerned with how to discriminate the motion of specularities from the motion of surface markings, and how to estimate the underlying surface shape. Here we take a different approach and ask whether a field of specularities gives rise to motion parallax that is similar to that of the underlying surface. The idea is that the causti...
