چکیده

Cladding base metals with platinum or platinum alloys offers certain technical and economic advantages. In an earlier paper the mechanical properties of the metals to be joined were discussed. In this second paper it is shown that interdifi ion of the two materials being joined together must be considered, and that ifthe partners have different diffusion coefficients diffzculties can result during later production stages. This is especially true ifvoids form in the diffusion wne due to the Kirkendall effect. This effect is particularlypronounced when copper alloys are used as the base metal, however it can be avoided either by using nickel-rich alloys or by incorporating an electrodeposited intermediate nickel layer of suitable thickness.

Copper and Nickel Alloys Clad with Platinum and Its Alloys JOINING TECHNIQUES AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES

Technical and economic considerations have identified an opportunity for composite materials which combine certain advantageous features of both noble and base metals. During an investigation of some platinum cladding techniques and of the properties of the resulting bimetals, data have been amassed which could have relevance to industrial a s well as to decorative applications. Here the effect...

Electrosynthesized Reduced Graphene Oxide-Supported Platinum, Platinum-Copper and Platinum-Nickel Nanoparticles on Carbon-Ceramic Electrode for Electrocatalytic Oxidation of Ethanol in Acidic Media

In this work, the electrocatalytic oxidation of ethanol was studied in acidic media at the wholly electrosynthesized nanocomposites: platinum and its alloys (copper and nickel) anoparticles/reduced graphene oxide on the carbon-ceramic electrode (Pt/rGO/CCE, Pt-Cu/rGO/CCE, and Pt-Ni/rGO/CCE electrocatalysts). The electrosynthesized nanocomposites were characterized by scan...

Nickel Base Superalloy Rene®80 – The Effect of High Temperature Cyclic Oxidation on Platinum-Aluminide Coating Features

Nickel base superalloy alloys are used in the manufacture of gas turbine engine components, which in use are exposed to high temperatures and corrosive environments. The platinum aluminide coatings described here have been developed to protect nickel base superalloy alloys from oxidation. In this study, the effect of cyclic oxidation, platinum layer thickness and aluminizing process on beha...

Promotion of the Cupellation Method for Accurate Determination of Gold Alloy’s Karat Containing Platinum-Group Metals

The main standard method for gold karat determination is the cupellation method. However, this method is not sufficiently accurate to determine gold karat in the presence of insoluble Platinum–Group Metals (PGMs), such as Ir, Ru, and Rh. In this study, for the first time, a complementary method that can be used coupled with the reference cupellation method is presented for the high...

Substitution of platinum by laser-generated nickel-alloy nanoparticles for heterogeneous catalysis

Platinum is a scarce and expensive metal that is mostly used as a catalytic active material for energy converting devices like fuel cells. The more cost-effective metal nickel and its alloys are an interesting alternative to platinum. For this purpose, we fabricated ligand-free and purely electrostatically stabilized nickel-molybdenum nanoparticles by laser ablation in liquid and characterized ...
