Homogeneity and Fix-Points: Going Forth!
نویسنده
چکیده
While the back-and-forth method has been often attributed to Cantor, it turns out that in the original proof of the characterisation of countable linear dense orders, themapping is constructed in a single direction. Cameron has called this method Forth and has shown that it can fail to build an automorphism for some homogeneous structures. We give in this paper a characterisation of those homogeneous structures for which Forth always builds an automorphism. This generalises results by Cameron and McLeish. §

The Classification of Some Infinite Jordan Groups
WHEN we speak of a 'back and forth' construction for proving the isomorphism of two countable structures we call to mind the famous theorem of Cantor that any countable dense linearly ordered set without end-points is order-isomorphic to Q. Cantor's own proof requires only the 'going forth' part of the construction, however, and Adrian Mathias, on noticing this, asked for a classification of th...
متن کاملAnalysis of Mean Field Annealing in Subtractive Interference Cancellation
In this contribution we derive the cost function corresponding to the linear complexity Subtractive Interference Cancellation with tangent hyperbolic tentative decisions. We use the cost function to analyse the fix-points of solving the Subtractive Interference Cancellation equations. The analysis show that we can control the slope of the tangent hyperbolic functions so that the corresponding c...

Let $S_n$ be the symmetric group on the set $[n]={1, 2, ldots, n}$. For $gin S_n$ let $fix(g)$ denote the number of fixed points of $g$. A subset $S$ of $S_n$ is called $t$-emph{transitive} if for any two $t$-tuples $(x_1,x_2,ldots,x_t)$ and $(y_1,y_2,ldots ,y_t)$ of distinct elements of $[n]$, there exists $gin S$ such that $x_{i}^g=y_{i}$ for any $1leq ileq t$ and additionally $S$ is called e...

This paper presents an exploratory study about how savvy end users configure return points in mediated interactions with Web applications through WNH (Web Navigation Helper), a user agent that supports rephrasing, explanation, commentary and elaboration of interaction in scripted Web activities. The study is part of a long-term research on selfexpression through software programming. Savvy user...
