Conductivity of disordered electrons: Mean-field approximation containing vertex corrections

چکیده
The electrical dc-conductivity of disordered, noninteracting electrons is calculated in the asymptotic limit of high lattice dimensions d→` . To go beyond the lowest-order contribution in the expansion parameter 1/d of the single bubble diagram, vertex corrections are calculated from an asymptotic expression for the two-particle vertex. A mean-field approximation for the dc conductivity containing the leading high-dimensional vertex corrections is proposed which is free of spurious nonanalyticities, i.e., the conductivity is non-negative and shows no unphysical behavior in d>3.

We calculate the corrections to the conductivity and compressibility of a disordered metal when the mean free path is smaller than the screening length. Such a condition is shown to be realized for low densities and large disorder. Analysis of the stability of the metallic state reveals a transition to the insulating state in two-dimensions.

Inhomogeneous dynamical mean-field theory is employed to calculate the vertex-corrected electronic charge transport for multilayered devices composed of semi-infinite metallic lead layers coupled through a strongly correlated material barrier region. The barrier region can be tuned from a metal to a Mott insulator through adjusting the interaction strength and the particle filling. We use the F...
متن کاملQuantum critical behavior in disordered itinerant ferromagnets: Logarithmic corrections to scaling
The quantum critical behavior of disordered itinerant ferromagnets is determined exactly by solving a recently developed effective field theory. It is shown that there are logarithmic corrections to a previous calculation of the critical behavior, and that the exact critical behavior coincides with that found earlier for a phase transition of undetermined nature in disordered interacting-electr...

These are notes for lectures delivered at the NATO ASI on Dynamics in Leiden, The Netherlands, in July 1998. The quantum kinetic theory for noninteracting electrons in a disordered solid is introduced and discussed. We first use many-body theory to derive the quantum Boltz-mann equation that describes transport and time correlation functions in this system. Particular attention is paid to the c...

Quantum conductivity corrections in two dimensional long-range disordered systems with strong spin-orbit splitting of electron spectrum. Abstract We study quantum corrections to conductivity in a 2D system with a smooth random potential and strong spin-orbit splitting of the spectrum. We show that the interference correction is positive and down to the very low temperature can exceed the negati...
