چکیده

In the Goemans-Williamson semidefinite relaxation of MAX-CUT, the gradient of the dual barrier objective function has a term of the form diag(Z), where Z is the slack matrix. The purpose of this note is to show that this term can be computed in time and space proportional to the time and space for computing a sparse Cholesky factor of Z using an algorithm due to Erisman and Tinney. The algorithm for computing the term can also be derived from automatic differentiation in backward mode. 1 Semidefinite relaxation of MAX-CUT The MAX-CUT problem is the following combinatorial optimization problem. Given an undirected n-node graph G, find a partition of the nodes of G into two sets V1, V2 such that the number of edges that cross from V1 to V2 is maximized. This problem is known to be NP-complete. A Recurrent Neural Network Model for Solving Linear Semidefinite Programming

In this paper we solve a wide rang of Semidefinite Programming (SDP) Problem by using Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs). SDP is an important numerical tool for analysis and synthesis in systems and control theory. First we reformulate the problem to a linear programming problem, second we reformulate it to a first order system of ordinary differential equations. Then a recurrent neural network...

A Note on the Descent Property Theorem for the Hybrid Conjugate Gradient Algorithm CCOMB Proposed by Andrei

In [1] (Hybrid Conjugate Gradient Algorithm for Unconstrained Optimization J. Optimization. Theory Appl. 141 (2009) 249 - 264), an efficient hybrid conjugate gradient algorithm, the CCOMB algorithm is proposed for solving unconstrained optimization problems. However, the proof of Theorem 2.1 in [1] is incorrect due to an erroneous inequality which used to indicate the descent property for the s...

Designing Phononic Crystal with Convex Optimization

Designing phononic crystals by creating frequency bandgaps is of particular interest in elastic and acoustic metamaterial engineering. Mathematically, the problem of optimizing the frequency bandgaps is often nonconvex, as it requires the maximization of the higher indexed eigenfrequency and the minimization of the lower indexed eigenfrequency. A novel algorithm [1] has been previously develope...

A path following interior-point algorithm for semidefinite optimization problem based on new kernel function

In this paper, we deal to obtain some new complexity results for solving semidefinite optimization (SDO) problem by interior-point methods (IPMs). We define a new proximity function for the SDO by a new kernel function. Furthermore we formulate an algorithm for a primal dual interior-point method (IPM) for the SDO by using the proximity function and give its complexity analysis, and then we sho...

A path-following infeasible interior-point algorithm for semidefinite programming

We present a new algorithm obtained by changing the search directions in the algorithm given in [8]. This algorithm is based on a new technique for finding the search direction and the strategy of the central path. At each iteration, we use only the full Nesterov-Todd (NT)step. Moreover, we obtain the currently best known iteration bound for the infeasible interior-point algorithms with full NT...
